My motor let go last night blew a hole in the number two piston.

One thing I didnt know was when my fiance drove my car to work Friday night she put in regular 89 octane fuel because it was empty. I was in it pretty hard and felt like I hit fuel cut other than the fact that I was blowing some serious smoke. I pulled over opened the hood and the manny was glowing red and oil all over the engine bay. The next thing I did was check the oil, it was normal and no coolant in it but was running on 3 cyl. Had a buddy of mine pick me and take me to my shop at 2am and pick up our flatbed and drove the 40 miles and picked up the car. Now this morning I did a compression test and it was 140 psi on cyl 1, 0 on cyl 2, 140 on cyl 3, and 140 on cyl 4. you can actually see the hole in the piston thru the spark plug hole.

So I know of a 91 that needs a coil that is for sale and has a rebuilt motor bored .20 over with cams, fidanza flywheel, TRE tranny, ACT clutch with NO miles on anything and the body only has 40k on it. he wants 2500 for the car. should I rebuild mine? Becase the head is good on mine tranny grinds a bit in 3rd x case is great. I am thinking of parting out my car minus the turbo manny exhaust uicp bov turbo timer and gauges.

what do you guys think?

Why would you part your car out over a blown engine?
I just saw a whole awd assembly from disk brakes to xfer case to ecu on ebay for $1900.
Thats your best bet if you want it back to stock. Machine work if your crank is still good is going to be a bit expensive, probly about $700.

well if its going to cost me around 1g to rebuild the car I might as well part it out and buy the other one since its in better condition.

I have looked at it like you too, Why spend the same bread on building a new motor when you can get a WHOLE car that someone just dumped all there cash into and trade up with the money you make on your parts sale.....

The only drawback is quality of build, does the work stand on its own at that price or is it hodge podge work that will END up giving you more problems later...

I myself would not mind a LOWER mileage car, with NO body damage, that is my biggest complaint about mine, since i wrecked it * not terrible wreck but enough that it needs a new rear quarter if it were to be perfect...

HIS car sounds like a better deal...or a better start for less money you could spend getting yours to the same point...

grab a 6 bolt block from the junk yard. less than $150 or so. all you gotta do now is the work of swapping out motors.

Well I know who built it and its not just a hodge podge thing. It does need a couple of things but I will have them from the parts off of my car. First motor I have ever blew up. It still runs but only on 3 cylinders. there is no noise from the cylinder like bounceing metal so I think that the block is okay. I just got a heck of a deal on a 6 bolt block (free) but do I want to build it up? probably not. Thank god my boss is cool and let me barrow a work pickup until I get the other car.
