are the oil pump/front covers he same on the 4g63's and 4g64's. i was in the process of getting my car running after a full rebuild when the oil pump locked up on me. i thought i had the oil pump lubed well enough but apparently that wasn't the case. i don't have $200 - $400 for a pump from the parts store and the last time i was at the junk yard there were plenty of cars with 4g64's in them.

Yessir! Just as long as you using a 6 bolt pump with a 6 bolt block...or same deal with 7 bolt. :thumb:

Sorry you have violated rule number three and now im paying the price.

Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice can be worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard").

I am currently putting together a 4g64 (6 bolt). I inpsected both front cover oil pumps from my 6 bolt 4g63 and the 6 bolt 4g64 and determined the 4g64 oil pump to be in better condition. I also noted the 4g63 said DOH on the pump cover and the 4g64 said SOC on the pump cover. I then did a search on tuners here and found your reply. Also found a couple of other threads stating either or would work. So I went ahead and installed the 4g64 oil pump/front cover and sealed the oil pan. I went to assemble the timing components and found these things.

First found the bottom of the motor mount bracket would not clear the front cover, just barely though so I ground it away.

I then went to put the tensioner arm on and it would not clear the front cover.

The part circled doesnt allow he tensioner arm to seat properly.

I then noticed that there is no mounting location for the automatic tensioner, I circled where they should be.

This as all after I mounted the front cover and sealed the oil pan. I thought I could trust a companies judgement but I was wrong.

If you guys have any dignity I think you guys should send me a new front cover seal kit and Ultra Gray RTV to reseal my oil pan, to pay me back for misfeeding false information. I hope nobody else made the same mistake.
