My set up is ,t3/t4 50 trim,550cc fuel injectos,255 walbro pump,3inch turbo back exhaust, hks ssqv, act 2100,turbonetics manifold, 38mm waste gate. Im going to be buying the brian cower cams this friday, witch one would you guys recommend on this set up?272 or 280? btw this is a dd car. and im upgrading the fuel injectors to 750cc and switching to the link in a month or 2. also what would you guys rate the cams from 1-10 from 10 being the best 1 being the worst.

With a 50 trim and the car being a DD, I would definitely go with the 272's.

And off topic, but I was just up in White Bear Lake last weekend, I have cousins out there.

I just completed a 6 bolt swap in my 98 . . . a FFWD stroker xp, stock 2g head with Crower 272/264 combination. The extra displacement (15%) eats up cam timing. I noticed a lopey idle, however, at 3200-3500 rpm, right at the threshold where the boost (big 16g),cam profile,& timing on the custom chip comes in, it feels awesome - like an afterburner. I don`t mind the lope in the idle, I think it sounds cool, however, don`t expect much to happen under 3 grand. I need to dial it in as far as timing, etc, but it is a killer combination, the 272/264 combo with the 2.3 stroker . . . :talon:

I'm running 280's on my 50trim built setup car hasn't really been driven, because of clutch engagement issues, but it idles perfect. 280's should be great with the setup and later i know I'll want a bigger turbo and I won't have to worry about upgrading the cams later. It always important to think about the future and save yourself money and trouble.

Personally wouldn't even think about putting 280's with that "size" of a setup, especially with a stock intake mani. You will lose a tonn of low/mid range driveability with the 280's & the rest of your setup isn't designed to make power where the 280's are. I know several people with more "larger" bolt-ons then you that went to 280's & have since switched to a smaller cam.

ive got what i was told is a set of bc 280 cams. The head was redone 3k ago. I really want to put thease cams in and i know that the car has enough mods to install thease cams. But its got a noisy valve train(2g internals). The head has a mild port. So my questions are 1-should i pull the head and have it redone with different internals or can i just install the cams 2-do i need to have the car tuned or will my safc work? im getting a different car to drive everyday so i dont have to drive the tsi everyday till its ready. and 3- how do i know what my cams are? are their any markings i can look for? my car is the biggest cluster %$#. its a 1g with what we think is all 2g parts ie 7bolt block 1g head 2g intake
2g tranny. LOL but it runs and she is quick and took me 1800 miles on a road trip held 26 psi on a e prom ecu(borrowed from a fellow dsmer to see what would happen! LOL) and got me home. only thing that happened was a cracked exaust manifold!! i love my baby!! sorry to get off topic a little

stock 2g head internals are not going to be good for aggresive cams such as bc 280's. you should get at least bc, crower, or kiggley springs and retainers to handle the thump of those things. 2, there should be serial numbers stamped on the very end of them if they are for sure aftermarket cams. then you can cross reference them through various companies. also, the cams should have some paint on them in certain areas. if you do not in fact have aftermarket cams, pm me i have a set of bc 264/272's for sale. also a brand new set of oem springs, retainers, and valves that would go great with my cams. and i think the later 92's came with 7 bolts.

I woudlnt even go with Brian Crower Cams unless you plan on degreeing them.

I do have Brian Crower 280's, degreed properly, running 35psi+ boost with a 2.4, and I absoltely hate my powerband with the stock intake as it dies up top where I should be making the power.

Your fellow Minnesotan!

I had BC 272s. I rate them a 3 / 10. Heres why.

EDIT - I jumped the gun on this without ending the above story. BC and Dustin @ BC were vary good to me to fix the situation. There is no argument that the cams didnt make more power for me, they did and in every way possible. I dont want anyone to think I had issues with the company or anything, just the set I happened to use. Again, the issue was quickly fixed on BC's end.
