HI guys, whats going on?? I have a couple of questions.
What is the best or has the best cooling capacities of radiators available for the 1g. I know there is: visteon, koyo, fluidyne, mishimoto. I don't care for the price or pakages, kits etc. I'm not trying to save money, I just want the best cooling radiator over the stock 1g.
There is a number of slim style fans out there. The spal fan which is said to be the best and most expensive slim style fan, flows a 1360cfm. I would go for these. No problem, but the thing is, is that they don't pull air evenly through the entire radiator. leaving hotspots and cooling it properly. Thats one of the reasons why some people overheat with aftermarket fans. For this reason, the stock fans are better. As they are incased in that housing with covers the entire radiator. Forcing the fans to draw 100% of its air through the radiator. They might be weaker but they cover the entire radiator. There is also FAL fan, which claims that they flow 25% more air that stock.
I'm simply looking for the best daily driven car cooling system that has a front mount intercooler. Again, price is not an issue for me. I just want the best fans and radiator made for the 1g dsm.

Thanks guys.

jorge.

Stay with your stock fans and since you have your AC (probably) system removed, when you drive the car, push in the AC button to where it lights up to either the yellow or green, turn on the fan switch to the first position and both fans will take off and run continually.

I'm keeping all my a/c stuff. I'll be getting a front mount intercooler this summer and it requires to remove the stock fans. I don't want to overheat on a stop light when I have my a/c on. Thats the reason why I want to know which is the best cooling radiator koyo, fluidyne, etc and best cooling fan. I keep reading that the best ones are spal fans. Those are the ones that flow even more than stock but do they actually do a good job at cooling the radiator at a stop and with a front mount intercooler. ??

honestly if you do have any overheating issues with the stock radiator and fan setup (unless your stock radiator is shot) then there are other problems you should look into first...(water pump, thermostat, etc) all Im sayin is dont waste money on a better radiator with a slightly less than optimum fan setup if there is nothing wrong with the cars original equipment....Im gonna use the cliche here "IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT":thumb:

This all depends, my car didn't start overheating until I installed a fmic. Doing so, was blocking a lot of airflow to the radiator, and the car was overheating at idle. I checked to make sure the fan was coming on and it wasn't just a relay. I then bought a visteon radiator, and I haven't had any problems since. I turn my spal fan on manually by a switch in the #### pit, and most of the time the car doesn't even heat up enough to use the fan. I would personally go with a visteon radiator, but I thought they were only making them for the n/t's now?

Its not that my stock fans and radiator are busted. Its the fact that with a front mount intercooler, the fans have to be removed. My car doesn't overheat yet. Id did at some time before. I replaced thersomstat, ISC, biss, and did a flush and fill.
I would get the visteon radiator but they don't make it for the 1g. There is koyo and fluidyne. How well does the speraco radiator performs. Its a bit pricey but I don't care. I want to do it right the first time and not go cheap on my car. I know that speraco has that wave technology that they use. It seems to be that the radiator is a bit smaller than the rest. Am I right on this? If so, then how does it perform with a daily driven car with fmic and A/C? I think I might buy 2 spal fans. Depending on the radiator. To hell with overheating.:barf: I'll spend as much as possible if i have to.

There is nothing wrong with the stock setup. That will change when I install the intercooler. since I will have to remove the fans. I wish there was a way of keeping them but thats not possible with a short route fmic.

OOOHHH gotcha I overlooked the fact that your were going srfmic....my bad....then I will definately use this thread as a bias when I go front mount! as I have 1g myself:thumb: so even with a smaller core use on a 1g ppl experience overheating by just going short route? is there a way to maybe mod the stock fan shroud?

No I don't think so. There is just no space between the o2 housing and the stock fan shroud, housing whatever you want to call it. If anything, I would love to keep my stock fans. It seems that the stockers might flow more air throw the radiator than almost any aftermarket fan out there. Eventhough the some slim fans might flow more cfm than stock. Spal is one of them. The reason is; the stock fans have that thing. I don't know what the name of it is. I don't know if you call it shroud or hausing. either name. This thing which incases or houses the stock fan, covers every corner of the radiator. Since we have to of these on our fans, they cover the radiator at a 100%. Better yet. There is foam material around them, which makes it impossible for the fan to blow air from other areas. Thus all the air that the fans are blowing, comes 100% from the entire radiator. This way, there is less possible chance of there being hotspots on the radiator when the car is at a stop. This could be the reason why alot of cars with slim fans eventhough more powerful than stocks, still heat at a stop.
This is why I'm asking for the best radiator and fan out there. I want to prevent any overheating when I install my fmic.

It doesn't matter if its short or long route fmic. As long as the lower intercooler pipe enters or connets to the fmic on the drivers side, you will need to remove your fan. Unless both the lower and upper ic pipes connect on the passenger side of the fmic, then it is possible to leave everything as it is. It would be like having a side mount intercooler but mounted infront of the car.

Fluidyne FTW :thumb:

Reason:
36mm core (1g application)

Koyo:
32mm core (1g application)

Price difference was ~$40 back in 2006 when I got mine.

As far as fans go, I was able to trim down the housing of a standard 14" Hayden fan to fit in place of the larger main OEM fan. I needed to do this because the OEM fan wouldn't fit with the 50 Trim that I was running back then.

With my ETS SRFMIC, the OEM AC fan would not fit because of the LICP.. I went with a 10" Hayden fan that I wired up to turn on with the larger 14" fan with an extra relay.

Overkill? -Maybe, but I never had any overheating issues. -Then again, I have also completely removed the AC system... With any FMIC, I would strongly recommend doing the same :)

Thanks man, I think I will go with the fluidyne. I want to keep the A/C. I don't use it often because it robs tons of power but the girlfriend might complain about the heat.

Any information on the spearco radiator? How well does it perform on a DD with FMIC? What are the reviews on these? I can't really find much information on them. It would be nice ot have some info on these radiators/fans so that members here can see them for reference.
Any positive or negative feedback is much welcome.
Thanks everybody.

jorge.

So for the 1g aplication, you would say that the fluidyne radiator is superior than the koyo?
They are both about the same price.

thanks

jorge.

According to the Mishimoto website their Radiator has a Core Thickness of 40mm. Ive read nothing but good reviews about this setup but there doesnt seem to be any long term reviews yet.

I still have my stock metal endtank radiator w/ only the passenger side fan. My intercooler is large, I have the external oil cooler and I still never get up to operating temp even in El Paso, in traffic in 107 degree weather. What is different and how are so many people having trouble over heating?

Lucky bastard. I'm fighting this right now, and my FMIC is smaller than yours!!!
I have a fan that advertises 1600 cfm, and the factory a/c fan feels MUCH more powerfull. It just won't fit. I wish I could use my stock fans so bad....
I can't even fit my stock pass side fan. It hits the turbo outlet too hard. I tried trimming the housing, and was sucsessful, but the fan blades hit the turbo.

I have 2 10 in. slim fans(unsure of brand) One is mounted on the pass side, I'm going to mount the other on the other side and have it come one the same time the other one does.

My problem is on the highway though.

Do you have any shrouds that direct air to the rad??? I don't
It's been 100+ here a bunch.

I don't have any, but what about using ducting from where the fogs go and direct it to the radiator. Since you don't have a/c or an external oil cooler in the way, the radiator should get plenty of flow. You might just need to man up and get some FAL's on both sides and front and back. LOL
