Perhaps that's old damage and someone rebuilt the head before you. They just left it and fixed the head. Do you know the history of the car?

I would personally leave it and fix the head issues. Doesn't look like a big deal to me.

looks like an old problem just from the carbon build up. I would emory the high points and rock it some more>>

It looks like a valve hit it or something got in the combustion chamber previously and hit the piston, but it shouldn't affect performance.

so the history is that the guy blew the head gasket had it fixed then started blowing water hoses and then again with the head gasket then overheated it like a muther then water and oil mixed and sat for a wile a little i mean a little rust has formed on the cams but its small enough to have cleaned i havnt cracked the pan yet to see how ###ed the crank is im sure that will b some more fun.........
ahhhhh ### it ill just rock the magnus motor LOL

The second set of valves are different than the rest also. Not even the same design. (in the pic)

I ding'd up a piston worse than you did. I went ahead and ground it down, then kept on rocking it. That motor took me to the Finals at the DSM Shootout they had at Englishtown. I only lost because of the damn redlight, but that motor with just an upper intercooler pipe and blowoff valve and exhaust went consistent 14.5's on 15psi. That same motor still lasts until this day.....untouched.

I would get that head schecked out. just let a shop check it make sure it's flat and no valves are messed up. But as far as the piston goes It should be fine.

For the longest time I thought that was the way these pistons came stock.

There is the potential to have had rod bearing damage, anytime something physically keeps the piston from moving the rod bearing will contact the crank. The crank stops moving at that point too, so wiping it out is unlikely.

so im not sure i have a line on a stock head im thinking about maybe just going for a reman motor and then strip this motor and build it from there but as far as what you all keep saying i might just do the head and go from there

While the head is off you may as well pull the oil pan and replace the rod bearings, heck you could even get some stock bore pistons and do a whole forged bottom end while you're at it. That's what I did when I threw my timing belt. Just figured while you're in there might as well. Get the head built with some nice components too. All together you're talking maybe $2500 paying retail for everything. Topend and bottom end. You could probably do it for the same or less than a reman engine. Just my .02
