This weekend I am going to look at a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. It has a blown engine and 141,000 miles. Everything else is great, transmission, interior, paint, etc. He was asking for $1250 knowing that just the head is bad. Now he knows that the block has a crack so he will go lower. I can get a local 420a with 120k on it for $600. However, before I waste the gas money to drive all the way to look at it:

1. I am 6'4"ROFL, will I fit in this car?
2. What is gas mileage like on a stock 420a?
3. If I have $2400 total to drop into this car, am I going to be able to lower it and put slightly used rims on it?
4. How good/bad are tein lowering springs for a 95-99 eclipse?

I know these are probably stupid questions, but I hope you guys can answer them! Thanks a lot,

Collin

1. You'll fit.
2. How heavy is your foot? 20mpg is probably average.
3. Yep.
4. Pretty good. :)

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I normally drive quite slowly to try to save gas. I obviously do rat around a little bit with my friends. I am looking for a clean sporty looking car since I don't have enough money to get a good eclipse with a 4G63. Is it possible to get more than 20 driving slowly? Thanks again for the reply!

Oh, one more question! Does any one have the general ball park figure for insurance for a 16 year old with no record? I will obviously call tomorrow, but I am just curious. I don't want full coverage.

On the non-turbo car, the insurance won't be TOO bad, but take into account the 16 year old factor and the price is going to be higher than it would be for, say, a Civic of the same year.

As far as mileage, keep the tire psi to correct specifications, keep the air filter clean, replace the fuel filter, and drive like a grandma and you could see well over 20mpg. Romp on it at every red light and you probably won't. :) With gas prices the way they are, I don't see too many people opting for the latter behavior.

I am hoping to get a deal on a CAI and full exhaust from a friend up the road who has an eclipse, but I'm not sure. Thanks again, I'll make sure to post of the car if I get it.

Oh, another quick thing. How much should tein springs be for 95-99? I see about $170, is that a good deal? Does the drop look good?

Any drop on an Eclipse looks good, considering our cars look ready to go mud-bogging from the factory with the stock wheel gap. Tein is an industry leader and are a very reputable company. Many DSM'ers use their suspension products with great results.

Okay, cool. After summer is over in a few months, will I be able to sell my car and make a profit? It sounds like I can put this together rather cheaply. If I put $2400 in, I think I could get more like $3000 out of it. Any ideas?

normally the everyone will tell you to wait and save your money and just buy a turbo. If you look you can find them for cheap. My girlfriend bought her GST for 2 grand completly stock. So I would check around first before you settle for an n/a

I would think that in 2008 you should be able to get a 1g turbo for $2400. My friend paid $4000 for his and that was at least ten years ago.

When I was 18 I went on my own insurance plan with USAA and Pay about $105 a month for a 98 GS-T, but keep in mind thats with a good student and driver discount, I have just about full coverage, I think the only things that wouldnt be covered would be if my car was vandalized, which I dont really have to worry about in my area.
