Hey guys, i recently purchased a 91 mitsubishi eclipse gs-t. and i must say that i am impressed with the car. I also own a 2004 mustang cobra with a few goodies{456/478}SAE, so i know what quick is, and this lil car for a 4cyl is quick. The mods on the car are:3in turbo back catless, 4in dp{i think}, k&n filter, apexi ebc, greddy turbo timer, greddy bov, apexi super afc[which i know nothing about so i dont touch it],tokico ground control suspension, and stock turbo seeing a max of 1 bar of boost. This is the first DSM ive owned, so im new to the DSM world, so any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to DSM's. I came from the American muscle world as well. I used to own a Z28 and was amazed the first time I drove one of these cars. The one tip that I'll give is to research everything you do to the car, don't go with anyones "I heard doing this will get you that." One cheap/easy upgrade that you can do is to the stock turbo. You can pick up plenty of bolt on turbos for your car in the $500-$1,000 range depending on how serious you want it to be. Good luck:thumb:

Maintanence first, take care of your dsm and it will do the same for you. Go over everything and make sure nothing needs to be replaced before you continue modifying the car (timing belt, balance shafts, pulleys, boost leaks, fluid changes).

This site has upgrade paths you can follow for your dsm.

Also VFAQ's website

http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

DSMTuners and VFAQ have so much information about these cars. Most of us didn't know anything about these cars when we joined, but now would probably consider ourselves better than most mechanics. Any questions or concerns about the car, just search...and if nothing comes up then create a thread. We'd be glad to help, and welcome to the forum! :)

04' cobra, NICE! I'm not a mustang guy, but 03-04' cobra's are serious cars. I have an 87' Grand National and an 02' Z06. Last summer my 91' talon was just as fast as those cars and this summer i'm expecting it to be faster then both! My DSM is cool because I can actually afford parts for it. Unlike the corvette.

thanx for the warm welcome guys, i cant wait to start modding it up a bit more...so considering the mods i alredy have, what would you do next?

Welcome to the Dsm family

You ll love the car as much as you ll hate it sometimes, and thats what a driver car is.
You ll have to maintain it and take care of it, if you do she ll pay you back, if you dont, she ll let you know, the more I think about it, the more I think those cars are like womens LOL

My advice would be read, read, and read again on these boards, sites like vfaq, etc
there s so many things to read and learn about it s incredible.
Then I d tell you get a logger, you ll have much more info about your car, and you ll be able to tune with your safc properly and understand what you re doing etc, that should be a good start :thumb:
btw do you have a boost gauge in the car?

I didn't see anything about the fuel system. Like any forced induction car, the fuel sys. is important. If u don't already have it, Get a good in-tank fuel pump(walbro 255). For $300 u could get a MAF translater/LS1 mass air sensor combo and ditch the stock mass air sensor. The GM 3.5" m.a.s. flows way better and the translater box makes fuel tuning/adjustments easy. After I got my maf translator I dont even use my apex afc.

i think the afc i got is an old 1 because it has knobs that you push in and they pop out and you can turn them to adjust it. so the new ones have actual screens so you can see what your adjusting??

Find out from the PO if possible every single mod done to the car. You may have upgrades that aren't visible like fuel pump or not very obvious like injectors, rewired pump, wideband O2 sensor, etc. Also, see if you can get some info on what maintenance has been done. If the PO recently replaced belts, tensioner, pulleys, water pump, etc. in the past 30k miles, it'd be a big waste of money to repeat that, but if the PO hasn't, you might really want to do that part of the maintenance.

A few snapshots of your engine bay will show the guys on the forum some mods you might not notice.

Welcome..have your check book or debit cars ready..

do these cars really have that many problems??? only thing ive had to change is the battery...also i did the plugs just because its easy and looks like the car was sitting for a while....but will get pics of the car and engine bay asap!

Well, it will give you that many problems if you let it. Just have to be on top of maintenance.

My car is fairly low mileage (88k), but it's not been a hassle at all to maintain. Maybe I'm lucky. After you start wrenching on it for performance, you'll have no problems doing the maintenance stuff "on the side". I've heard maintenance is the key, but I only have my own experience to rely on.
