After pulling out my 1g pistons and rods. i found out that one of my piston is in bad shape. it had carbon build up and lets just say its not useable anymore. Now what i'm trying to figure out is what should i use now. I'm planning on using 1g pistons and rods, 2g pistons and 1g rods, or evo 8 pistons, but it's just that what are the difference between these/gain from them? If i dont stick with 1g pistons and rods and decide on the other 2, do i need to do anything to the block? DECIDING PLEASE HELP!

my goal is to go completely stock for now with some other upgrades and see how far i can go with stock internals, but willing to change my pistons and rods w/out going aftermarket. just sort of stay in the dsm area.

so now i'm debating. evo8 pistons and rods has a higher compression and i was wondering if they'll work better than the 1g pistons and rods? if not then i think i might just go back to stock 1g pistons and rods. which one would you go for?

the way i see it you have three options that make sense.

1. 1g big rods 2g pistons in that case you have to machine the rode to take the piston good for reliable 400 wheel been done plenty assuming you have the rods 50-100 for the pistons another 100 for the machine work $200. if you dont have the rods another $75-$100

2. weisco pistons come in 9.0 compresion with new rings holds 600hp $350 keep 1g big rods limits you to 400hp. safer same money takes more abuse

3. weisco with eagle rods $700 new pistons new rods all is good holds 600 wheel motor is done for a while.

but the stock 1g stuff works and in a budget crunch does get the job done but you will have lower compresion then the other options and it will be used. probably not safe over 400hp. i know you wanted to know about stock stuff but the after market is so affordable that its almost crazy not to buy new forged parts imho. you have to out weigh the cost of the parts the machine work to make them work plus the hone, assuming you dont need a bore in that case you have to change to after market pistons. i hope this helps i dont wont to tell you what to do just show the other side a little

hope this helps.:thumb:

thanks. i'll keep that in mind. you know like you said, it's a little more spendy on aftermarket then it is on stock parts but i'll see what i decide on.
