Im looking to do a shortblock build and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the roller wave pistons. A friend of mine swears by them but he uses them in his honda the pistons look impressive in my opinion. Just wanted to know everyones two cents

No feedback. I've always been a bit curious, in the interest of swirl, why no one staggers the timing on the intake valves so they don't move together. But if you're using forced induction, it's kind of a waste of time anyway.

I got the total opposite of what you got from looking at the picture. If anything to me it looks like its almost the same dish hight its just missing the wall all the way around. That to me would make the combustion area larger because the piston doesn't have a complete dish therefor creating more space? But im not sure

Here's a pic of the F/I and N/A pistons for a 2002 Eclipse. It seems the F/I ones are flat/depressed while the N/A ones are peaked for higher compression.

If you read through some of the info on the site, he says that the pistons are designed to bias the air/fuel mixture towards the exhaust valves.

I think Larry is onto something, but I think the reason why it's not done more often is because regular pistons already work well enough for most people. And also, it's his own "experimental" design (not really experimental at this stage anymore, at least not for Hondas, but it's still proprietary). I doubt too many manufacturers are really looking to screw around significantly with piston designs the way he has when they can just throw some shelf slugs in and call it a day.

He's got some interesting porting techniques, too. I kind of stumbled upon the whole anti-reversion porting thing when I gasket-matched my exhaust manifold. The head ports are untouched (so there is a large step). Unfortunately, I made some other changes at the time, so I can't say what the porting did, but my car does run like a raped ape. So I'm going to stick with my screw-up until I move away from a non-Mitsu turbo (LOL, probably not in this decade, I've already been running the small 16g for 6 years now).

I'm confused. "swirl" does nothing to push the mixture to one side of the chamber wedge or the other, in this respect. But "tumble" does. . . I was also told that swirl is not very relevent for a multi valve head. Imagine the helix trying to form belind the valves. What the he!! will it do when it gets to the divider between the valve ports. How short of a helix will work to see any appreciable gains?

He's basically loosing quench on the exhaust valve side as a trade off to get better atomization through the heat of the exhaust valves itself. So How much gain can you get from vaporizing the gas better, but still having whats left un vaporized more scattered through out the combustion chamber?. . .:hmm:
