I see there are different compnays that produce water pumps for alot lower price than mitsubishi oem. is there any problems known with those water pumps? I would like to save money if possible but i wont risk the engine doing it.

Also, what am i looking for to replace all the belts. i see kits available but does that cover everything and are the kevlar belts really alot better than stock? :rocks:

Topline water pumps are teh sucks compared to an oem one... don't penny pinch on things like water pumps and oil pumps....

DEFINITELY don't use the oil pumps from topline, they do not have gears in them that mesh with tolerances as tight as the oem units.

I put a rebuilt one in my 91 gst from oreillys when I had it. Only thing I could find that day and I had to have it that day because I was leaving the next day. I drove the car for probably about 1,200 miles after I put it on and no problems.

The majority of water pumps out there will have the same basic design, meaning not one will perform better than another. The primary difference will be the specifications to which they manufacture them and the tolerances for failure. Purchasing an OEM may be much more pricey than others, but the likelihood of failure is drastically reduced.

If you decide to purchase one for less cost, even if the product fails they will replace it in most cases. They will not, however, replace the rest of the engine that just overheated and warped because of the failure.

As for the Kevlar belt, it's a matter of that same principle. The ability for Kevlar to hold up to extreme use far exceeds much of the materials of which other belts are constructed. For OEM belts there is only a slight percentage increase in the stresses it can take, although that slight increase would mean the difference between a blown engine and finishing a race for some of the drivers out there. It entirely depends on the vehicle's use and the driver's tendancy for insuring against catastrophic failure.

I bought a water pump from the Mitsu Dealer. I received AISIN brand water pump.

Bearings started to go after about 15k miles on it.

Replaced with an ITM water pump from partsdinosaur.com have about 8k on it so far with no problems yet.

Point is, I am not sure Mitsu has a mitsu brand waterpump.

yeah, is there a mitsu brand water pump? I dont wanna penny pinch at all i just want the best parts available whether oem or aftermarket.

No. Mitsubishi does not make belt-driven mechanical water pumps for an engine. They do make electric and industrial water pumps, but I do not think this would be appropriate for your vehicle.

I have not seen water pump failure within the first 60k, or even within 120k miles of installation. It is a fairly basic mechanism and as long as it remain lubricated with coolant and is under normal operating conditions there is very little chance of failure.

If you have major concerns, use a dealership to purchase and install the water pump. Their service should cover any damages if the pump should fail.
