Hi i have a 96 gst and just today it started cutting off at like 6 grand in second gear i was on the highway and was hitting boost and i was ready to shift at like 6500 and it did not want to go into 3rd gear for the first time ever.. So after it did that i didn't get on it and all of a sudden the speedometer started jumping up and down every time i would touch the gas pedal and it would not go past 6500rmp i got the feeling like it had no power like the ecu was cutting off like some cars do at high speeds. Then the problem started getting worse like it doesn't want to go past 4rmp. So the problem is it cuts off and the speedometer jumps up and down all the time. It will cut off in every gear at high rmp"s. Please help me with this problem

Sounds like fuel cut. Update your profile so I can see your mods.

I am going to assume it is fuel cut, which is caused by lack of fuel and you running too lean. This causes knock and ecu stops you for a good reason, fuel cutting can pop a head gasket or detroy an engine.

Check the frequently asked questions section of the forums. In there is a thread about this issue. In the mean time If you are not stock, return to stock boost level until you can figure out what you are doing wrong.

Sounds like fuel cut to me too. But unlike the reason stated about "fuel cut" has nothing to do with your car running out of fuel, that is a miss conception by newbie dsmtuners. No offense, 95burgundyesi, fuel cut is actually when your air meter tells your ecu I have X amount of air flowing through me, the ecu says no that's way to much and cuts fuel and ignition timing to prevent an engine failure. Best thing to do is give us as much info as possible or take a video of it and post if on youtube, then give us the link so we can help you out.

Zing! ^ Lol just add fuel or stay below 15psi on stock fuel system.

I did thought it sees too many counts of knock and pulls timing and yeah cuts. I guess I am wrong, O well wouldnt be the first, I did buy more than one dsm.

By the way your saying it, it doesn't sound like fuel cut. When you hit fuel cut, you'll know it. It feels like your at wot then bam! you get scared your engine messed up while your head is almost hitting the steering wheel. To this day, I still have fuel cut, i'm lazy to get it fixed. Now what your saying is that now your car won't go more that 6k rpm, I had that problem once and it ended up being that I spun a rod bearing. At idle do you hear any tapping or knocking noise other than your regular lifter noise?

no no no.. you got an electrical failure somewhere.. if your speedo is jumping, and you hear everything clicking and its stalling, I would start looking for loose wires.. Start with the higher powered wires.. battery, starter, alternator.. really, the first place I would look is by the starter..

You are having the issues at high rpm's? if a hot wire is loose, it may cause the alternator to make the voltage rise alot.. if you were running a car, and took the hot off, and watched a voltage meter on the battery as you reved the engine, it would not stay at ~14 volts.. it would rise.. sometimes as high as ~20 volts, which may cause things to cut out..

This does not sound like fuel cut at all to me.. it sound's 100% electrical...

Alright everything is stock on my car i am at stock boost. The problem is it when u get on it it feels all good and stuff then all of a sudden its like bam it does not want to go any more than 6000 rmp. So i have some videos to show you guys of what happens. It also get worse the longer you drive it and it SUCKS on gas it did not before. when you drive it longer it starts doing the same thing at like 4000rmp.

Pull out your ecu (behind your stereo) and open it up and check the capacitors.. Do they look like they are leaking?

Goto VFAQ.com and click electrical.. then click the first one in the list.. "ECU Capacitor Replacement"

Thanks a lot for this i really appreciate it. Is that why it is bad on gas too. Because it runs alright until like 4 to 6000rmps and than it starts to act up a lot. I will check all of those things i have heard that can be wrong wit it i just want to fix it it s annoying the crap out of me..

Thats not me in the videos that is my friend!!!!

i Have just checked me ecu and that is not the problem.. I can not figure out what is wrong with it still feels like a fuel cut. The check engine light just came on so i took it to see what it is and it read a MAP. Code P1105 so i am trying to figure out what is wrong with it. It does run very rich and the speedometer still jumps all over the place.

This car cuts power off at any where from 4-6rpms mostly at 6k i don't know what could be causing this it didn't do this before. I was wondering if the fuel pump could be going bad.
