'98 GSX...I removed the intake manifold and below it right in front of the block is a black pipe about as big around as an oreo and that is connected to something on either side of the motor. This bar/pipe is dented and pretty much halfway flat in one area(obvious it's not supposed to be. I have checked haynes and chiltons and cannot find out what it is or if it carries any fluids. Can anyone help? Also the turbo that came on the car, which was not stock, did not have coolant lines run to it nor did it have a place for them, should it have? I have ordered a 16g and also would like to know if iy will have those connections and if i'll have to re-run the missing coolant lines. Thanks DJ

Coolant tube. The dent is not that bad, you will not have to worry about any problems with over heating or leaks.

Thank You the dent is alot worse on the underside. If I chose to replace it do you know how i would find the part and how to remove it?

The turbo on the car was very large nobody knows for sure what it is some said possibly a garrett. I took it off because the impeller on the exhaust side blew out also it didn't spool until 4.5 to 5k. Although at peak boost it was AMAZING!! =)

To remove it you have to remove the thermostat house from the head. A lot of people dent them to clear large turbos. As long as it isn't leaking I would not worry too much about it...

Yeah fyi that's the exhaust manifold you took off, and the black "bar" is a water line. Dented as it may be, if it's not cracked and leaking you should be fine as is. The line is not painted black from the factory so it's black from residue/soot or it was painted.

Yeah looks painted, it's chipping to the left there. I painted mine black as well to hide it better. That dent is nothing to worry about, a lot of guys run it that way,

WTF:toobad: If I were you I would not go much further before doing some reading up on basic mechanical knowledge.

now, before everyone jumps on me for being the ****, I know we all start somewhere. but by the looks of his post his mechanical knowledge is limited and I would hate to see him waste money/time for unneeded issues.

if you put a 16g on its liqid cooled the pipe thats on there looks like its off a non turbo car

nah, its a 2g. our water pipes don't have the same threaded "bung" (for lack of a better word) as you 1g guys (notice the little titty up where it goes into the t-stat housing)
