Sault Ste. Marie,
Hey guys,

My friend and I picked up my 95 Talon Tsi Awd today with 140kms on it (86k miles) on it, as it stands it has lowering springs and aftermarket shocks, K&N intake, 16G turbo with a vented atmosphere bov, and a manual boost controller.. Now when I get on it it goes decent, not much faster than stock because we havent touched the psi, but i notice that it falls flat on its face after about 6.2-6.3k rpm.. is this normal?

I'm trying to keep this on a budget and I've already started looking at exhausts and as far as I've read I should be looking for a turbo-back.. but nothing is coming up under ebay for that.

This is what I have so far, and will this bolt up together with no other needed parts?

3" Downpipe
SR*S Catback
or
JDM N1 Catback

Other than these parts, would a intercooler be a good next step or should I be looking at a fuel pump instead?

The first piece of advice I can give you is to recirculate that BOV. Unless you have a MAF-T setup. If you plan on boosting past 12 or so, I believe (don't quote me), than you would need that fuel pump. But definitely an intercooler would be a nice addition to your setup. If you do decide to get that downpipe it will eleminate your cat and I'm not sure if it will bolt up to cat-back systems you have there but it might.

Oh, and welcome to DSMtuners.com! :thumb:

Personally, I would get an exhaust made a shop for cheaper. Thats if you really need an exhaust right now.

What are your goals or what do you plan on doing with the car?

I think getting gauges and a logger is a first. Do some maintenence on the car

Then worry about whatever you want. I personally would do fuel upgrades first then exhaust. Max out that 16g before you more on

You will learn alot on here.

HAHAHA oh man.. " upshift " that gave me a good chuckle.. hahaha damn dude you got 500 more until redline.. we get most of our torque around 3k i believe.. i forget where our peak power is though... a descent exhaust system will help your top end quite a bit though.

If its falling on its face, first start with a boost leak test before anything else, and since you just got the car check the spark plugs to make sure they are the correct NGK plugs and the correct temperature rating with the proper gap, and the plug wires are still within spec, and while you have those plugs out its not a bad idea to do a compression test to find out where your engine stands. I agree with everyone else make sure you recirculate that bov unless you plan to go with a GM MAF setup. When you say it falls flat does it feel like its hitting fuel cut? Oh by the way welcome to www.dsmtuner.com :thumb:

Well I guess my "flat on its face" description was too hard, it's more like it runs out of steam, power is there but after around 6300 is doesn't pull as hard, I was thinking that it was exhaust restriction but wanted to check here first.

I've read the upgrade path a few times and was just making sure that I didn't *NEED* anything asap with a 16g (like gauges). My plan is around 250-300whp, and if I would ever need more I would just put it on the bottle like my Trans Am.

like stated above.. your car will not run correctly if you have your blow off valve vented unless you have a maf translator which i am assuming you dont...also whenever i pick up a new car i do a whole tuneup on it to make sure everything is up to par (plugs, wires, fluids) and i would also run some seafoam through it

+1 on the exhaust, I think that every stock exhaust is restrictive.. A full exhaust is only going to help you and will let your car breath much better. Definitely recirculate your BOV. Aftermarket Boost Gauge too, you need someting you know is correct. Also I would recommend bigger injectors, FPR and fuel pump with that 16g. Also its a good idea before you do any of that stuff to pick up a datalogger, this is a nice way to start making sure everything is running properly.

How would I tell the difference between the stock MAF and a GM MAF? I have already done a tune-up this morning with plugs n wires, and seafoaming it tomorrow :)

Also how would I perform a boostleak test? ... nevermind FAQ are actually helpful LOL.

As far as the fuel pump thing goes, 13.2 psi on an evo III 16g puts the stock 450cc injectors at 103% idc at only 5,700 rpms... Not good.

Yah dude, you need to look at finding a none restrictive downpipe and a bigger o2 housing. I'm wondering if it falls flat on it's face because your turbo is creeping and your hitting fuel cut. If all you plan on is 300whp i would, after exhaust and aftermarket boost guage, do a supra sidemount with meth injection and a hard upper intercooler pipe. Also check your ecm if you have an eprom, 95 is the only 2g year with them, if you do i strongly suggest looking at DSMLink Homepage . Then once you've done all your maintenaince, free upgrades from www.vfaq.com, some intake and exhaust upgrades, then you do fuel, injectors, re-wired pump, afpr, and if you have dsmlink you could possibly be closer to the 350hp mark depending on what size injectors your getting.
