The advantages of DSM link over SAFC/MAFT tuning is there is much finer and more precise tuning capabilities, along with the ablility to tune timing curves. The SAFC and MAFT ar ejust ways of tricking the ecu into making the setup work...DSM link actually makes everything work as if it was supposed to be there...like with injector dead time and global fuel map adjsutments and what not. It also has many othe rfeateres like idle control, launch control etc that you will not get from either AFC or MAFT. The AFC and MAFT will work, and have been proven to work fairly well, but for the price of both, you could get yourself a 95 eprom and DSM link and be much better off.

For sure get a wideband before you do decide to do anything so you can watch what's going on inside your engine. DSMLink will probably be your best bet, it's really not that expensive for a very good stand-alone unit. Plenty of support on the forums and it will support however high your horsepower goals so no need to change anything down the road, plus it's a lot more reliable. SAFC and MAFT will be okay to tune with up to a certain point, correct me if I'm wrong but they're only good up to about 660s? But if you look at the prices of both, why not just go ahead and pay the money for DSMLink? Before you decide to do anything let us know your full goals for the car, if your ultimate goal is just a 16G then you can get away with an SAFC or a MAFT. If you think your goals will end up going higher after that then I'd say DSMLink, especially if you have the money for it.

SBR beat me to it, he's nailed it on the head, :)

i have the safc and its nice but go with the dsmlink. Im going to have to upgrade to dsmlink sooner. I know its a lot more money but in the long run its a must have. You can fine tune everything and its all around the best thing. Pretty much what the others have said but its a definite dsmlink. I doubt you will hear anything else if u have the money get it.

Dsm link is the way to go definately if you have the cash. Safc is a good setup if you dont have the cash and know how to trick the computer into doing what you want. Link however is totally worth the money for how precisely you can tune
