What's up everyone!! so heres my first post n dont worry ive done plenty of searching on MachV.com, RRE, and in the forums so pleeeaasse dont ream me for not searching. i just bought a 95' AWD Talon for $1000, and im cofused as what motor i might have... well kind of i guess. At first i was confused ### the odometer says only 42,xxx on it. i thought this was odd but maybe possible. i got to researching about 6-bolt and the 7-bolt motors n which cars they were in, so i figured i had a 7-bolt. i found MachV.com and went out to check for that dip in the oil pan. well, it buldged out towards the drivers side. now MachV says that i hav a 6-bolt motor in this talon. am i correct?? or is there another place i could look to tell me for sure what motor is in this car? The turbo casting says TDO5h on it too which i beleive it says on the 14b turbo all the way up to the EVO III 16g right? i need to know verrrry soon. i have an ACT clutch on its way this week and i want to order the flywheel but i am stuck til i figure out which motor this is. The car has a S-AFC II, RC Injectors, looks like an aftermarket fuel rail, MBC, n other stuff i probly havent come across yet... Thanks for your time guys. i know i kinda babbled on but im new to 4g63 world and am tryin to do things right the first time.:thumb:

Yes, the TDO5 comes in alot of different configurations, from a 14b to the e316g and there are 20g TDO5 variants too, but those are different looking. An easy way to tell if its a 14b or 16g is to take the intake tube off and look at the fins on the compressor wheel, if they are all the same height you have a 14b, if they alternate size you have a 16g variant. There are different "sized" 16g's out there, the small, big, and evo3, and they all have different part numbers. They are:

49178-01010 - 14b
49178-01520 - Small 16G
49178-01420 - Big 16G
49178-01470 - EVO III 16G

yeah thats the part of Machv.com i saw, but i was just double checking to be sure. one more question i have is that do u have to switch to obdI with that swap, or is the car still obdII? i was just curious because i wanted to order a pocketlogger and want to get the right one.

it will be an obdI because of the CAS sensor, which werent used on 2gs
good catch though, for a grand!

ok well is there a way to tell by looking at the obd port or no? or is there a place to check for the CAS plug or wires in the engine bay?? this is goin to be more of a project then i thought tryin to figure this car out.

On the left side of the valve cover, on the end, there MAY be a hockey-puck sized aluminum disc. If you DON'T have one of these, then the engine (or at the very least the head) is still a 95-96 engine, as the 95-96's had their CAS inside the head. If there is one there, then you possibly have a 97-99 engine (or head) OR a 1st gen engine (or head).

Either way, the car will still remain OBDII. The port is under the dash on the driver's side, just left of the center console where your knees would go.

i take it that because the oil pan buldges out that i have a 6bolt bottom for sure. i didnt know that u could have a 2g head though.... anyways ok i will check in the morning for that disc. i just figure for having a 6bolt bottom it probly is the whole 6bolt motor then. plus i believe its the 1g tranny too. the 97-99 motor doesnt have a buldging oil pan like the 6bolt does it?

When you look for the cas on the side of the head you still may not know if you have a 1g or 2g head. because some people put 1g cas on there 2g. Ive not messed with a 6bolt enough to beable to figure out the difference in the looks of them. i just know the few differences in them. But as for the oil pan im not to sure bout that. Also i believe if it has a 6bolt you should be able to look at the drivers side motor mount and it should have been ground down some.

First post some pics of the engine bay so it will make it a lot easier for us to figure things out. Check out the intake, 1g cars have a different intake(well at least it looks different), pull some pics out from the gallery and compare the engine bays.

hey chief.. sorry about the "threadjacking"... ah i havent figured out how to start my own questoins yet.. noone has ever thrown that out there "threadjacking" they just kinda helped me out but hey my bad good luck wit things..

sry it took a week to reply(internet issues), but i checked on that cas sensor on the left side of the valve cover, and it is there. so now do i figure i have a 6-bolt for sure or no?? and btw, if it is a 6-bolt, do i still have a crank position sensor or is that left out on 6-bolt motor swap? thanks guys i really appreciate the help.
