i have a 95 gst eclipse has a 50 trim and a big front mount car runs great but every few days or so the check engine light will come on and the car will run like crap i pull over and un hook the battery cable levae off for a min hook it back up and it runs great again until the next time any suggestions?

Have your codes read at the dealership/auto parts store/service garage. Tell us what codes they are.

That "Check Engine" isn't just a light to annoy you so you can fool it into turning off. It's there to tell you something is wrong with your car and you should investigate the cause before something bad happens to it.

its a 95 so cant hook it to the thing to get a code

It's a 95, so it's OBDII compliant. ANY OBDII code reader should be able to read it. Your profile says you have a 93, though. You should reset your AFPR for 43psi with the hose off.

one more thing when u get on it it will blow a cloud of black smoke out what causes that??

Black clouds of smoke from the exhaust under heavy acceleration means that the car is running rich. Have you done a boost leak test?
