if youve read my other thread, im tryin to narrow down all the possibilities with the tranny issue that im having with this 92 talon tsi awd i just picked up...ive installed a new clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, bled the system, new tranny fluid, and adjusted the shifter cables...my problem is that the tranny grinds a little going into first and second...here is the deal...i can adjust the shifter for it to shift smoothly into first but then the throw is then to short to go into second...so i adjust it to go into 2nd smoothly then my throw is too short for it to go into first...before adjusting the shifter i initially thought syncros were gone....but would it be the syncros if i could adjust it to shift smoothly into either gear? i managed to track down the original owner and drilled him about what was done to the car...he told me that it had a short shifter in it and ever since it was installed the car never shifted right...here is my question...is the shifter in the pics below stock or aftermarket? if its aftermarket then i will get a stock one and see it that solves my prob...i couldnt find any pics of a stock shifter on here so any help would be appreciated...thanks...

Hey im new here too but it think i can give u a few things to think about. First of all yes stock shifter.. second make sure the hydraulics on the car r fine. How high does your clutch catch at? very low? if so re-bleed or adjust ## clutch pedal or change master. If it catches fairly mid way or so then not to worry bout hydraulics.. Next thing make sure to adjust your linkage to stock. Make sure no oil is getting into your bell housing if so then ## clutch might not be disengaging properly. Check your whole linkage assembly check for sloppiness or parts which are bent or something ( in car and under hood ). It doesnt seem like a syncro assuming it does go into gear smoothly when adjusting the linkage. Like i said im not a wiseman of dsm's im just an apprentice.
