hi guys.

i have a 98 gs-t, with the amplified infinity sound system(no disk changer). every since i got the car the radio has sounded great, but been very very picky about playing cd's. if they have any little hairline scratch, it skips like crazy. recently i was on my way to work and it was being as picky as usual, then it just "froze" all controls except the "high/mid/low" knobs stopped working and it was playing loudly, still skipping. i reached down and unplugged the factory amp, and figured i'd take a look at it after work. well the unit is junk, won't respond to anything, so i bought an Alpine CDA-9884

i'm planning on installing it myself, but i'm not sure as to what wirin harness/harnesses i need. i've found 5 or 6 that say they are for a eclipse in my range, some simple harnesses, some with rca cables. i have no idea what i need and was hoping i could find the answer here.

i was also hoping that someone might have a "stick on ribbon" type antenna that they recommend, because i hate using the motorized one(i had one in an old car that got stuck)

so any help on the wiring, (maybe a recommendation on the dash kit too), would be very very apreciated...

Stop into Walmart and in the Car Audio section grab a wiring harness that states its for Imports. It will say 95-99 Eclipse on the back. I'm not sure if you'll need something special to be able to keep the stock speakers though...

i have installed many radios in many cars, and if you go to store that installs radios like best buy they can help with the wire kits and dash kits. it might cost more if you go to a pro shop but if your amp works you might need a wiring harness to us with your alpine. You might have to jump your amp if you go to the library you can look up the wiring diagram. remember that some of the dsm ground through the radio and you might have to add a ground wire. hope this help

thanks for everything so far, but the guys at our local best buy, and circut city said they don't have an adapter for my model, and can't order one...

the dash kit i was just looking for anyone who really recommends a certain brand, i have a good one picked out...

i think this is what i need:

mitah 90-2000 Mitsu cars with infinity systems;

DO NOT buy your harness and dash kit from wal mart. they sell schosche (junk). look around on the net and find a place that sells metra kits. you will need a metra wiring harness and dash kit. the best kit has a 1 din pocket underneath the cutout for the new radio. the wiring is not hard, just wire up color - color. there are 2 big black cables plugged into the back of your stock deck, just pull those out of the car, they wont be used any more. also, the wiring harness isn't what has the rca outlets, the radio has the rca's on it.

as for the stick on type antenna, look around at autoloc's stuff. i bought an amplified stick on antenna from them when i eliminated my stock power antenna a few years ago. and it works really great. this type of antenna will stick onto the glass. then it's just a co-ax to the radio, just like the stock one is. i installed mine right up next to the headliner on the passenger side in the front. then just ran the co-ax down the passenger side piller and to the radio. it picks up just as well as the old powered antenna did.

btw, you will not be able to keep the oem speakers that are in the dash. unless you bypass the oem amp that's underneath the passenger seat. if you do want to bypass the oem amp post back and i'll give you the wiring diagram for the oem amp.

yea i'd like to keep all i can, my speakers sound great to me... so how can this be done?

well someone told me that most after market radios have a built in amp. and the stock unit does not, that is why they need the infinity amp. in my case i don't really notice a difference in sound but i really don't crank the volume all the way up.

Hmmm this is a prettyinteresting thread.....im just curious now because im currently building my car up, and spending ALOT on performance parts, but at the same time when I get it back running i would like to be able to cruise with some tunes who doesnt right?
So my car is actually a 95 Tsi but with a full 2Gb Mitsu conversion and when i bought it it had no stereo, but i have a couple "parts cars" and 1 of them had the stock "INFINITY"
CD player, but what im hearing is that this wont work without the amp? I have the amp but i dont think its good (was submerged in water) I just realy didnt want to spend performance $'s on a cd player on the other hand...............I suppose it would kill the boredom to go to bestbuy and look @ some nice decks.

Heres all you will need. Just go to a stereo place and give them these part numbers. If the dont have metra they can cross reference the number. And as for bypassing the amp the only thing you will lose is just the tweeters in the dash. Which in most cases are shot anyways. So if you still want them i would just replace them. But you want tell much of a difference without them.

well i'm definantly not getting that dash kit, i found one, for my car that has the "pocket" on the bottom half...

Tell me how a scosche wiring harness is junk? Wire is wire. Actually if you ask alot of so called experts, they will tell you to get a cheap amp wiring kit from walmart as they are just as good as a $60 or $80 kit with a brand name on it like RF.

so, i'm pretty sure that my tweeters work, and i'm pretty sure that a walmart harness would be as good as any, if its just wires and a connector, seeing as i do not need gold contacts or cnc machined bits.

so i'm gonna look at my neighborhood walmart, see if they have it, and if not i'll try a car audio place by where i work(although i heard they are overprice, and kinda shady)

and i'm gonna use something like these:

Metra Electronics METRA 99-7007 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 2000-UP DASH KIT: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag

Google Image Result for http://www.soundoffaudio.com/productphotos/t-850-1.jpg

to mount it.

so why is it that the after market stereo, used with the installed amp, doesn't use the tweeters?

ok, this is how you will need to bypass the factory amp so that your front dash speakers will still work. you'll need to disconnect the wires from the deck and instead feed them down to the passenger floorboard where you will tie into the factory after amp wiring.

Left Rear- + yellow w/blue stripe
- gray w/blue stripe

Left Front Tweeter- + yellow w/blue
- gray w/blue
Left Front Mid- these are the door speakers- + white w/blue
- black w/blue

Right Rear- + yellow w/red
- gray w/ red
Right Front Tweeter- + yellow w/red
- gray w/red
Right Front Mid- these are the door speakers- + white w/red
- black w/red

and about the schosche stuff being no good, i'm definitely not trying to start any kind of argument. Metra makes about the best wiring harnesses and dash kits. But metra actually makes schosche, thats wal marts stuff. it's just like everything else though, schosche wiring harnesses are just wires and connectors, but the connectors are made out of really cheap plastic and the pins for each wire in the harness are bad about coming loose or outright falling out. btw, i am one of your so called experts. i made a living working as the head installer at a large car audio shop where i live for 4 years. i've just had a lot of experience with these things and i was just trying to share a little bit of it so some of you wouldn't have to run into the small problems i have. and a good metra wiring harness and dash kit costs very little more than a schoshe. usually 15 for each. but for the amp wiring kits you are talking about, i agree 100% on that. amp wiring is amp wiring.

The kit you have listed is for the 2000 and up eclipse whichwant work with your car. If your wanting one with a pocket find one that is made by american international. they have a pocket. It is what i have my boost controller mounted in now. As for the kit that still uses the factory amp ive never used the one for our cars. Just the normal kit. Sometimes aftermarket radios dont work so well with the factory amps. Take fords for instance (the ones with factory amps), if you dont rewire them sooner or later the volume will surge up and down. And Gm cars when the volume is down low they will be loud as crap. But im not sure with an eclipse. Its not to hard to drop 2 wires doen from your factory tweeters and hook to the speaker wires on the back of your radio. If i was you i would check your factory dash speakers and make sure they are not dry rotted. They may not sound like it with your factory radio but you will be able to tell it with an aftermarket the first time you crank it up.

if he just wires the front dash speakers in to the new alpine deck he's installing, it will run the ohm load on the deck down to 1 ohm on what ever speaker output he wires up to. all of the stock speakers are 4 ohm. each output on a headunit is 2 ohm stable. two 4 ohm speakers wired up together in parallel will run the load down to 2 ohm. 4 speakers wired parallel to a headunit will run the load down to 1 ohm. the speaker output that was running 1 ohm would be fried in very short order.
