I'm trying to get my motor out. Only thing that was keeping me from pulling the motor is the driver's axle. I spun the nut on backwards and started pounding it with a sledge. No luck. Nut slipped a few threads and I had to grind it off. Still couldn't get the axle and hub seperated so I dropped the oil pan and pulled the axle out of the transmission.

Now onto my question, when the nut slipped, I think the axle got mushroomed a little bit. Will I be able to grind it out with a dremel and fit a nut on, or am I pretty much screwed?

That axle is not coming off the hub. It was recently replaced as well, so I'm going to try and make it work.

P.S. What's the easiest way to pull the motor and trans out? :D

The axle is 2 parts, the outter and inner(intermediate shaft).

If you take your hub assemble off the car you should be able to have a shop take the axle off for you. You will just need a new outter shaft probably.

The easiest way is to get a cherry picker and pull both out at the same time. Remove the lower bar that connects up to the frame so that you can lower the engine and transmission. Have a friend help and you can angle it to bring it out and put it back in.

Im not sure if what I said is clear or not. It is really early in the morning.LOL

So... unbolt the tranny mounts on the cross member and take the cross member out??

OK for starters if the threads are ok on the axle shaft you can carefully grind the mushroomed end down until the nut fits back on. I would try to use a big three jaw puller to get the shaft out of the hub. If it was replaced recently it should come out fairly easy unless it was installed improperly. Onto the motor. I have done it both ways and I prefer tp pull the tranny first because you have to tip the motor at an angle to be able to get the motor and trans to clear everything together. With the tranny out the motor will lift straight up for you. On my 91 GST I can pull the trans out on the ground in about 30 minutes so to me it is easier than struggling to tip them as a unit. Good luck and keep us posted if we can help anymore. Travis

Yeah, thats what I prefer. It is a tight fit taking it out and putting it in, which is why taking the crossmember off will allow you to tilt the motor/trans while it is on the cherry picker. Putting it in the same way should allow you to have it bolted up in 2 hours.

Well I finally got the motor out guys. Thanks for the hand. It pulled straight out without much tilting and I used the tranny bolt and power steering bracket. Just some tips it really helps to disassemble the tranny mount on the pass. side and the mount on the frame.
