So my buddy picked up a 95GS-T with a claimed "Thrown Rod" and needed a place to store it as well as work on it to get it into a running state again. I have the car towed to my house so he can use the shop there. 2 months run by and no progress, Now he claims he is in financial troubles and sells me the car for $200 bucks, So heres the basic rundown.
-Exterior panels are CLEAN with the exception of.. front bumper/hatch/driver fender and the strut towers which aren't that bad to start.
-Engine has claimed "thrown rod" however there is coolant and oil all down the passenger side of the block.. Does this clue me into something else?
-Car has hackjob starion FMIC install and using a vented GReddy valve.
-Driver door has an Fbody style sag.. Meaning it wont close properly unless lifting up on the handle while closing the door, otherwise it wont close with that normal push.. Ideas for a fix?
I already have a 92 AWD TSi that ive dumped 6-8k into for mods and maintenence. So I figure since my girlfriend hates when I work on cars... why dont I give her something to work on so I can gain more time for my car? you know easy shit to do and make the GST hers.. esp since she thinks the 2g 97-99 are sexy as hell.. heres what I am thinking
-97-99 front bumper+headlights
-Fix rust on strut towers and fenders, repaint fenders and coat strut towers inside and out with bed liner
-replace hatch and install 97-99 Turbo type spoiler
-investigate condition of stock 7Bolt engine, Rebuild if possible. 6Bolt swap if motor is trashed
-Install New exhaust along with either reverting back to stock IC piping or Use ebay FMIC
-Install 14b or 16g if I upgrade my car before hers hits the road.
-Revamp suspension components, bushings/springs/struts
-powdercoat spare set of 17inch rims and tires
Anything else that I am missing here? Not looking to make a 11 second car here. But I deff want to give her something that can be reliable and quick. So basically any required maintenence to make it possible that I am overlooking is what I really need to know.
here is a pic of the car before I got it... After all the exterior work stated above gets completed I'm confident this car will look brand new..
