I've had a bad smoking problem and from what I can tell it is the turbo seals. LOTS of in/out play on the shaft and it smokes alot under boost. I'm losing no coolant but a TON of oil! However, I'm in the process of removing the turbo and read there would be alot of oil in the LICP. Well, there was NONE in there.

Is it possible that its still my turbo seals leaking?

Okay I just got everything off. There is alot of play in all directions including in and out yet there seems to be no excess oil. I am burning oil like CRAZY especially when I take off or hit the gas hard. Hmmmmmmmmm

Your turbo is shot. Do not drive on it anymore. Replace it immediately.

I realize its shot and plan on getting a replacement picked up Sunday to put back on. I've got it off. Is it still responsible for the smoking + burning oil even though there was none visible in the lower intercooler pipe?

Yes. Lower intercooler pipe is connected to the compressor (COLD) side of the turbo. Your oil is leaking out through the turbine (HOT) side of the turbo and burning up in the exhaust portion.

Most likely, yes. The vacuum of the exhaust running out of the turbine housing will probably draw some oil out of the turbo center section. It may be the turbine side that is leaking. Take your O2 sensor housing off and see if the inside of the turbine housing is wet. Chances are it is.

Thanks alot guys! I got 2/3 bolts off for the 02 housing. One got really tight about half way through some im soaking it in pb blaster over night so and will pull it apart tomorrow.

I just got the 02 housing off and there was alot of gunk in the port opposite of the port where the 02 goes in.

I just looked at the turbine and there is no wet oil but it looks identical to the inside of the manifold and o2 housing. Hmm I hope the turbo is where my smoking is coming from.
