Hey Guys I have my 1992 Mitsubishi eclipse gsx with 119k miles that's been giving me nothing but problems. Bought this car 2 weeks ago and ever since i got it problems keep popping up.

To start off, this is what i've done.

-Replaced valve cover, old one was cracked and leaked oil.
-New plugs gapped at .028 inches and / or .7mm
-new wires
-ran seafoam through the BOV vacuum line that goes into the intake, as well as 1/3 into crankcase and finally 1/3 into the gas tank.

The major probles yet are.

-The engine won't go past 3k RPMs on the Tach.
-When starting to go the Speedometer doesn't actually read until second gear.
-(Something is f'd up with the transmission it takes alot of time to get going. I believe it to be the torque converter majorly)
-Major exhaust leak coming from the manifold or that area. couldn't pinpoint but it's around there.(due to seafoam test)

Any help would be so much appreciated. This car has low miles but seems like it was taken care of like crap.
 
Have you looked at the oil yet? I bought a car that had similar symptoms and it had oil in it similar to molasses.
 
the oil in it's fine. i may go down and get some royal purple and throw it in there. Could too much oil be the case at all? Just curious because the dipstick off/on looks high. but not all the time. I may go ahead and change it just so i know the correct level is in there.



Oh and. at 3k on the tach it won't go any further, it acts as if it's the redline area and doesn't have much more to give.
 
Same thing happened to my 2G when I did seafoam. That was years ago and still to this day i cant go past 4000RPM. I figured id just wait and do an engine swap instead of spending the money trying to figure out the problem/problems.
 
What does the rest of the car do? Is this just a Tach problem or does the motor actually stop at 3k also? Does it smoke? When you're at 3k does it smoke?

Mobil 1 is just fine, no need for Royal Purple. Have you checked your tranny fluid?
 
I say royal purple cause I have about 3 quarts laying around and i'd only need to pick up one. it's what I run in my 95 GSX.

Transmission fluid looked high but everyone said that the vent on the transmission would spew out any un-needed. Are they wrong?
 
Add changing your fuel filter to your list of things to try. It would be nice if you could get a logger and log what is really happening. It would probably be cheaper than the guess and check problem solving strategy that you are utilizing right now.
