Need some opinions..
I have an EPROM ECU I need repaired(Stock boost guage does not jump to 0 when car is turned on), I have contacted both ECM Tuning and MOTOGUYS for quotes.
Both company's guarentee thier work.

MOTOGUYS:
Free Test to see if ECU is even repairable, 199$ fixed fee to repair.

ECM tuning:
1st give visual inspection, and decide if repair will take more than one hour to repair. If not they repair it, if so they call you and discuss probable cost. Repair rate of 78.50 an hour.

PRO's
MOTOGUYS:FREE test, if the ECU is Un repairable, no cost to me.
ECM:possibly lower over all cost.

CON's
MOTOGUYS: 199$ could be more expensive, if repair is quick and easy.
ECM:Will be charged inspection time no matter what, possibly could cost more.

I'm just looking for opinions and any previous experiences with both company's(I have researched and only found good about both)

Thanks for any inputs,
Ryan

ECM does not necessarily charge by the hour. My old ECU only took half an hour to repair, and the end cost was something like 44 after shipping.

I have had good experiences with both companies. Sounds like Motoguys, have the best deal. At the very least, they will tell you what's wrong and weather it can be fixed or not, for free.:talon:

That's interesting. Val told me he wasn't going to get into repairing peoples ECUs when he came over see what I did. The charge is the same as what he charges to sell you one of his non-EPROM "rebuilds". I wonder it that's just a swap price and if covers yours being really cooked?

I've seen Dave's work at ECMTuning and it's top notch. I can't say that about many.

I have both a motoguys ecu and an ecmlink ecu sitting next to each other on my kitchen table, and the motoguys ecu repair work is of high quality, a little blobby on the solder but thats cosmetic, the wiring work was just as good as ecmlink and the board was nice and clean. The motoguys ecu was non-eprom, however, and I would rather send money to ecmlink, because they support the performance aspect of my car, provides a kick-ass forum, and will work with me as my needs change via dsmlink.

I would contact steve (View Profile: steve - DSMtuners.com) and see what he says about it. He has fixed many ECU's for people here and does an excellent job from what I hear.

Here is his website with some prices on services:
DSM (Talon Eclipse Laser) and 3S (3000GT and Stealth) ECU Service and Repair

Looks like he's no longer doing ECU repair work.

I'd go with ECMlink, like some others have stated, they have put a lot of time/effort into helping us tune our cars.

From my perspective cosmetic is part of what differentiates the quality once you get past the basic functional requirement. At the high end of the scale is you can't tell it from factory original.

The factory ecu is robotically soldered. Good luck getting repairs from ANYBODY to look "factory original"

I went to ECMtuning to have my work done and I must say that is no ordinary soldering iron!!!!:shhh: The work may cost a bit but these guys will bend over backwards to help you out with ecu issues.:rocks: These guys put so much into the community that it is almost insulting to think that you would go anywhere else.:nono: I must say I am very happy with the work that I had done there and I would only recommend them for any tuning and/or ECU work. Help the Community help you:aha:

I was just going to say.I was just looking at steves website, and as of october 2010 we was only doing warrenty work..

I say ecmlink if Steve will not do them anymore..

What was ecmlink 10 or 15$ per ten minutes, or 90 an hour?
And ecmlink put in new caps for free..

So even with an hour worth of work and gettiing socketed your looking around 140 plus shipping both ways..

Steve, the guy who posted a few posts up can do it, the man is a soldering robot and a helluva nice guy in person. I have had him repair/socket plenty of ecus in the past for myself and am still to this day amazed at the work he has done on them. He no longer does repairs, but he recommends Tom/Dave(ecmlink), that's who I will go with if I ever need work done on any ecus now.

Given steves experience vs. mine, its not surprising that my idea of quality soldering is reliability and functionality while his is "factory original" appearance. I don't think either of us is wrong.

LOL, I can easily make "prettier" solder joints than your typical wave soldering machine.

The only two things I never bothered to do was match the tint of the the silkscreen paint and use the same wax based conformal coating. The spray on conformal coating I used did the job and was easily removable if needed. It just wasn't cost effective to try that hard to be perfect. I did go so far as photo etch some of the typical replacement traces for the board and looked into packaging a FPGA in a PLCC to replace the port expander that tends to blow up but at some point it falls into making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

As noted I don't work on ECUs anymore. It was fun but I needed to get back to making real money.

Likely, but I'm not caught up from being in London earlier this month. If it was a DSM question I only reply to posts now days and then only when I have some free time or can't sleep. Right now I had some time before dinner which it sounds like is now on the table.

It's ok..I emailed you and then decided to just check out the website..And since you don't do repairs anymore The email is not really valid..Basically it said my eprom took a crap and I need it repaired..But ecmlink I know will do it..So it will be getting repaired soon..
