I will probably be doing a swap of some sort within the next few months....

I'm looking at all my options right now and I'm not sure what would be the smartest thing to do...

First off would it be smarter to get a 6 Bolt drop in from KarKing (karking.com) for $2350.00 or get a used 6 bolt motor and buy all the other things I need to drop it in and hook it up?

I'm also thinking about just finding a 7 bolt motor...

From a good u-pull it you can buy a complete long block for around $220, tha includes almost every thing. A used engine is cheap but you will have to give it a fresh rebuild with gaskets, rings, timing belt. A good used engine with a rebuild will still be cheaper than the Karking engine.

But you have to include the money it is going to cost to buy all the parts to do a 6 bolt swap.. None of that is involved with the KarKing motor...

My karking swap is running fine, but looking back, I wish I would have opted for something with OEM parts, which Karking DOES NOT build with.

It depends how much hp you want to accomplish. i am about to do the same thing, find a 6 or even 7 bolt put it on a jack and slowly start pouring money into it, but my goal is 600-700 hp though. The best power for your money would be a 6 bolt with strong rods and 2g pistons, then you know the rest:thumb:

No love for the 7bolt :( Is yours on its way out? The swap isn't that bad. I personally would find a used long or short block and do a complete overhaul. That's just me though.

It just hit 120k... still running fine and all that, but I'm just thinking about the future...

Do you have the drop-in 6bolt? How did you like it? What parts weren't OEM?

No, I just got the 6bolt longblock. They came out with the drop in version a while after I bought mine. But like I said, they don't use OEM products, which kindof bothers me now, but if you're fine with that, the price is fair and it comes with everything you need. I pieced my swap together the old fashioned way.

I believe they do not use OEM pistons, rods, etc. The internals. You'll have to talk specifics with them.

Never forget that there are cheap 4g63 N/T blocks out there. If/when I ever do a swap, I'll have it on a stand chipping away at it as funds permit (as erald01 said, "pouring money into it").

But is finding a motor.. rebuilding.. and then getting all the 6 bolt swap parts cheaper than just buying KarKing's swap?

I have no idea. But I know that I could afford an old block and slowly afford parts for it, and I can't afford a KarKing motor all at once. Sure, I could save in theory, but if I had $2k laying around, I'd probably spend it.:p

I went with the a JDM Engine for mine but i havent started it yet im waiting on my flywheel to come in. I used magnus motorsports way to do my swap.

I went with a JDM motor, and soon after the oil pump failed on me because i did not rebuild the motor, as said above. That KarKing motor sure is clean as hell.

Im gonna have to agree with the others above, who said to start with a block and slowly, but surely :) , build it up to where you want it to be.

Regardless on where you source the motor, here is a little saying i use all the time... You can only pick two of the following three, so do it wisely. Fast, Reliable, Cheap.
(If it's --choice1-- and --choice2--, then it's not --unused choice--)
