I have a 1992 Talon TSi and it seems to have 2 drain plugs for the gas tank. One more towards the driver side of the tank as many do have but I also have a smaller bolt basically in the center of the tank. Of course this one is leaking and i have tried a series of crush washers/ rubber gaskets for this bolt but it continues to leak just the slightest bit. The bolt seems to be threaded into some kind of plastic which incorporated into the tank. First of all my question is does everyone else have this center drain plug also? I have searched and everyone only brings up the larger plug more on the driver side of the tank. My second question is does anyone have any ideas to stop the leaking? I thought about using some kind of plate and sodering it to the tank to just basically block the hole completely or I thought about using some kind of hardening epoxy to spread around the area it threads into (the plastic piece that seems loose) and see if that solves it.. I really dont like leaking gas near my hot exhaust so let me know if any of you guys ran into this before or what you suggest to solve it. Thanks guys. :talon:

Is this car AWD or FWD? My 91' AWD has one towards the rear of the tank on the drivers side. It sounds to me like your tank was patched and someone rigged a bolt in to the patch. If that is what happened you might want to consider replacing the tank.

Yeah, its supposed to be there. It screws into the bracket that holds your fuel pump. The original tank that I swapped out of my 94 didn't have it though. But the tank I put in, out of a 91 had it. As for the leaking you need to pull the fuel pump bracket out of the tank and inspect and probably replace the rubber piece that helps cushion the fuel pump, and also seals where you screw that bolt into. I don't know that you'll be able to stop the leak otherwise. Hope this helps!! :thumb:

yea I see that now, what a stupid thing to do! Lets drill a hole in the tank for a bracket, good thinking. I guess I am going to pull the pump and bracket, the bolt is a pice of cake to get out now considerign I already had it out like 3,000 times. So basically what you are saying though is that this bolt is not really going to prevent it from leaking its the actual rubber piece on the bracket that seals and the bolt is basically a precaution to the rubber seal not sealing? Kind of like a back up to teh small amount of gas that might sneak by the seal.. Also do you know if a N/T tank will work for a turbo in case I need to make a junk yard run?

Yep, thats pretty much it LOL. And yes, the gas tank from a N/T will work in a turbo car. To my knowledge there is no difference. Although, you shouldn't have to swap the entire tank, just that rubber piece.
