ok the deal is back in feb. i purchaced a 1990 talon tsi from a student for 100$ and it needs alot of work, most wolud say parts car or junk it but i got it as kind of a project to learn on. the first of many things the need some attention is the motor. It has 260000km on it, but still runs good... this is where my first question is what to do with it... im not looking to build a racing beast just something to be reliable street car, im looking at cams port/polish new valves seals gaskets basicly just to bring the 6 bolt back to life what else hould i do to it target of around 260 hp at the ground?( just in the motor please dont get into turbos and clutches going to have 16g turbo and a 6 puck sprung clutch of some sort)
thanks-> mattkay

port match the intake to the head and if your going to put an after market header on it port match it to that if not port match it the the stock exhaust manifold. Look it over really good i have two with cracks, which is a bad thing and 1g dsm are known for this. Next go with an under drive pulley system theres nothing like shaving rotational mass. Buy a k&n air filter.

if you do not have to drive it right away you could strip the whole thing down and re-man it your self too but its all really on what you want to spend

a head gasket kit set cost me 281 bucks so i am sure a hole gasket kit set is like 500 or more but there are rebuild kits on ebay to look around see what you like. Try the search feature too it works wonders.

i do have 2 cracks in the mani, and some in the turbo as well. as far as injectors go how big? 650s enough i probally wont run more than 17 psi. also what about axels how strong are the stock ones sorry if i sound like a complete noob but this is my first car that is mine becides my dads truck.

A stock head is more then plenty for you. But a nice set of 264 or 272 wouldnt hurt. I would just take it off and send it to the machine shop have them rebuild it. Once its apart they will know exactly what you need to do to it. When you put it back on replace your water pump, timing belt, tensioner, idle pulley if needed. Get a nice HG and a set of ARP head head studs.

No where near 281...and this is the full gasket set. Just get an OEM composite or MLS head gasket instead of using the one in this set.

4G63 4G63T 2.0 DOHC Full Gasket Set 1989 - 4/92 Mitsubishi and Hyundai

Gasket matching the intake and exhaust side of the head will be the only thing you need to get done for headwork and 272's are too big for a 16g. 264's will be much better match.

550s if you only plan on running 17psi but if you get the 660s they will let you grow and max out the 16g but the stock 14b will give you 260whp easily.

If I were you I would just tear the whole block down and refresh everything. New rings and hone. New bearings, Timing components w/ waterpump. BSE And check if the valves are still good and sealing and replace the valve stem seals.

i went with the set cause i took every thing head related apart and i dont have a credit card to buy parts online....yet

Depending on the shape of the car, you might be better off parting the car out, making money on it, and then putting that into a car that's in a little bit better shape. Then, you're not jumping into too much.

But hey, if you're in love with the car...go for it!

thanks for the advice on the cams, problem with the 14b turbo is its cracked.... not badly but im spending a bunch of money getting the motor built a r+d perforance rings valves ect. and i dont want the 14b to send stuff into my fresh motor. as far as the car goes it just needs a lil tlc all it needs it the area around the gas door fixed up.... the reason for just 100$ was the guy who had it before me jacked it up on the rear crosslink and broke it so the back end was swaying all over the place, cost me 75 dollers and about 30mins to weld it in
