I have a 90 awd my tach dont work. I have a 16g and 2.5 turbo back exhaust and a mbc set at 15psi. my reves jump so fast when i hit boost it hits the rev limiter before i have a chance to shift. the power band doesnt drop off it feels like i have alot more left 1st gear runs up to 25, 2nd 45, 3rd 65 is this normal i figured 3rd went farther than that are fwd geared different than awd

not mine every other car ive had did too. Thats why i think it could be fuel cut or something it sounds like its reving high though before i shift but the power band never dies out

mine is doing the same thing but I have the stock 14B. I change my sticky WGA and that helped a little

If you can only take it to 65 in third gear, I'd think something is wrong. I'm fairly certain you would know the difference between fuel cut and a rev limiter however. If you hit fuel cut, you'd most likely be checking your rear view for transmission parts.

next time you take the car out try putting it in a high gear, like 4th gear when your doing 20-30 and and floor it. you want to really put a load on the clutch and see if it will hold. if it revs up fast you most likely need to replace the clutch. if it slowly picks up speed and dose'nt red line right away then your clutch should be good. maybe im reading you post wrong but to me it sounds like your clutch is slipping

i know what real fuel cut is ive been in my freinds 2g an it felt like we hit a wall but mine feels like a rev limiter but i cant explain 65 in third gear I dont have any drop in my powerband in any gear

I knew some one would say that my clutch is fine no slips i can even break all 4 loose during a launch

If he still feels his powerband, I don't think the clutch would be slipping. I would think if the clutch was slipping he'd feel a complete loss of power.

Please know what you are talking about before you post misinformation. I don't mean to ridicule anyone.

A clutch can slip and still feel like it pulls. The best test for a weak clutch is to be in 5th and start from a low speed say 40mph and floor it. Unfortunatly he doesn't have a tach so it will be harder to tell if the car starts to slip.

Also I have hit fuel cut before and it is not going to leave parts of the tranny on the hwy.

To the OP I have a 90 and 3rd gear should be close to about 95mph if I remember right. You should really get something to log or atleast show you what your ecu is seeing for rpms. Have you tried to turn down the boost? I remember when I was on the stock 450's I could only run about 15psi before the injectors or stock fuel pump would run out. I would suggest turning the boost down to 8-10psi and see if it does the same thing. You should not hit fuel cut at those low boost levels.

Good luck and let us know your results.

Firstly, please, correct me if I'm wrong, when a clutch slips, the power is not being completely transferred to the drive train, meaning a loss of power to the ground. It would not feel powerful/in the power band if his clutch was slipping.

Secondly, I didn't say his transmission WOULD be on the highway, I said it would FEEL like his transmission just blew up. I've heard this analogy used many times, I just assumed it to be common knowledge that he would understand the feeling I was describing.

Maybe you should read more closely the next time you criticize someone just trying to help.

im having the same problem..... it feels like my gears are so close until i hit 4th basically the same as hes describing and no way my 3rd gets to 100. I have 680 injectors and a 255 pump.

I dont understand? I know for a fact i can hit 100 in 3rd. On the track of course;).Did they change the gearing through the years?Clutch's have a strong smell too;)

I have personally had a clutch that was slipping. You could not tell it on the highway. The way I found out was when I went to the dyno. If the clutch is majorly slipping then yes you are correct.

You said "If you hit fuel cut, you'd most likely be checking your rear view for transmission parts." That leads me to what I said.

Not trying to start a war with you in any way.

OP I just looked at your profile and it says you are using a maf-t. Are you no longer using the 1g maf? If you are no longer using the 1g maf and are actually using the maf-t and a gm maf then I would not say your problem is fuel cut. I could forsee a possibly lean condition but not fuel cut.

Why don't you fix your tach first? Whatever shortcut you are trying to acheive by trying to make us diagnose your problem without fixing anything first is quickly turning into a longcut since nobody, including you, really knows what the real symptoms are. Remember, vague problems = vague diagnosis.

i have sort of a delema with that i have a 90 car but I dont think my engine is original 90s cam with a air cooled oil filter housing mine is coolant cooled i would have to figure out the coil pack , ecu, noise filter situation if any one can help me out with that i would apreciate it bought the car not long ago dont know every thing that has been done to it I find new sh*t every day

yeah dude i wouldnt be bouncing that thing 2 much. Cant you hear your car and know what rpm is 2 high. Aftermarket Tac all the way. Good luck

there is a fine line between having no powerband drop off and rev limiter it hapends fast could i hook a tach to the coil ### if my ecu wire worked wouldnt my dash

alright guys i have a 92 gsx witha 6 4 combo and i have exactly the same issue it feels like rev limiter but why would it be set at 5000 rpm
