So I've got a 95 GSX that had the X taken off and changed to a T. My cv boots were bad so I bought some axels from NAPA. The car has the abs box by the power steering so I ordered ABS axels, but when I got under the wheel well it looks like it's been cut (picture attached) when it got converted. I can't get the axels into the tranny.

My question is, will the ABS axels work, or do I need to get the non-ABS ones? I've only tried the passenger side one but it will not start.

Thanks in advance.

When you say it looks cut, what are you refering to? Could you circle what we should be looking at? As for the axles, I believe the ABS and non ABS are different, however when we did a 5 speed swap on my buddies car, all the axles we bought from parts stores were not right, we ended up having to source two axles from junkyards, because the aftermarket front axles never fit. The part numbers for the axles are different also, so I would bet on it that the ABS and non ABS axles are different. So are you saying they converted it from a AWD to FWD?

The ABS part number is (passenger front) MB937748
(driver front) MR145597

The Non ABS is (passenger front) MB937746
(driver front) MR145595

I'm assuming its a 5 speed tranny.

Thanks for replying. It is a 5 speed. I've circled the line that looks capped off. I'm just confused that ABS would affect it going into the transmission since I thought all turbo transmissions where all the same. The new axles sure look the same as the old ones..

well i do know that the sensors always get corroded and stuck in the brake. but you'll still need abs axles

I've never seen what it's supposed to look like under there with the ABS so I'm assuming that that's not hooked up, and yes, it was converted to a 2wd before I owned it. Sorry that I didn't answer that question. I've read a little about the swap and I think they usually do that when pulling it out of the donor car.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to push the passenger side axel in to no avail. I know that getting that side out can be rough, but back in shouldn't be that hard?

If you still have the old axle compare the ends where they go in the tranny, make sure they are the same size, because the ones that we picked up from the store were machined slighty too big, so it would never fit in the tranny. From experience i've never had any luck getting axles from parts stores, i've always eneded up having to source them from a junkyard because they don't fit, I don't know why the aftermarket company's can't make a axle that'll fit, but the ones i've used never worked. You may have better luck getting a aftermarket passenger, but I know with the aftermarket parts store driver side, we could never get one that was right. Good luck.

As far as the ABS goes, def looks like they just cut the sensor because it broke. Most likely your car came with ABS, but it probably doesn't have any anymore, but the axles won't change.

I don't think that it matters either way. I've read some other threads where they couldn't get new axels to fit as well. I think I'm going to give NAPA my core and have them fix the boot, that way it should fit I would think. Unfortunatly, the driver's side axel is missing the section with the spline that goes into the transmission.

I'll probably buy a non ABS for the drivers side as well just to be safe. My car is sitting 2 hours away from me so these discrepencies are a pain in the rear.. The new axels did fit the hubs which is where the ABS issue should occur I would think.

Well I just got back from NAPA and it looks like they got me automatic axels which have 25 splines. The manual has 27 so there is the problem hopefully. I'm pretty sure I told the original guy manual but then again, he wasn't too bright:toobad:.

I won't get to try for a week and and half so I hope it works. Thanks for the responses.

This weekend I brought my 2nd set of axels to the car and they went right in with ease. The nice old lady at NAPA got it right:thumb:.
