Edmonton,
Searched and found no answers so I must ask. I've got the task of making a down pipe tomorrow on this 2GNT I just picked up. I'm a little concerned about removing anything with a gasket inbetween in relation to turbo mani/turbo without having something spare on hand. My question is -- will I be ok reusing the gasket? TIA

You should be fine. What gaskets are you talking about though? I'm not familar with what setup you have, so are you talking about the gasket the connects the turbo to he 02 housing or the gasket that connects the 02 to the downpipe. Either way though you probably have a metal gasket on there those usually last a long time and you wont have anyproblems. If you run into one of the thick paper/metal mesh kind they can be a little more delicate. It's one of those things that you wont know until take it apart. I would say that they are probably fine, unless the kit has been on there for 100k.

You should be fine. The turbo to manifold gasket is made of metal.

That doesn't mean much. I've personally seen 2k mile old BRAND NEW 7cm gaskets warp to the point where they bind the turbo bolts. Remove your gaskets and inspect them. If it is the turbo to manifold gasket, make sure it is still flat and none of the holes are oblong. If it is the o2 to dp gasket, alike any exhaust gasket, make sure that it is not frayed between the layers or burned (you'll see spots of black carbon where exhaust has passed through).

the gaskets I'm talking about are the wastegate-to-manifold, turbine out-to-downpipe and possibly manifold to block.

thanks for the tips tho I'll be on the lookout for problems

Just to expand a little more while on the subject of gaskets:

I'm going to need a short term solution until my exhaust gaskets arrive from RRE and I'm leaning in the direction of using copper. I have a local supplier that can sell me a sheet of copper for quite cheap and I have the tools to cut/create my own. Will this hold up on a turbocharged vehicle? I expect my new gaskets to arrive sometime in the next 10 days so it's only temporary. Or what would you guys recommend for the time being? I couldn't really find any definitive answers on this subject.
