Ok when I bought my car the guy "threw in" a cat back system he had bought and never installed because he sold the muffler to his friend and cut it off. So I figured ok he already broke lose all the seals in th system anticipating the install so now I have exhaust leaks, so I'll just get a muffler welded up here at work and bolt the system on. Last night I measured the cut area of the pipe and it was 3 1/4" does this sound right? I'll take some pics tomorrow and throw them up here.

3.25 inner or outer diameter? Sound like you measured from outside to outside.

Haha, if you don't remember if you measured ID or OD, it's probably ID, and it's probably 3". I think 3.25" are out there, but I'm pretty sure 3.5" is much more common, although not nearly as common as 3". If it's a pre-bent system, there could be a 3.25" section

LOL wll I measured late last night whle dealing with the cat having kittens and the wife going crazy beause of it and tying to get to bed for work. So if I do remember right and it is 3.25 will it be hard to find a muffler? And yes it is prebent.

Shouldn't be, They're probably just slip the mufflers inlet inside of your piping, and if not, they'll 'massage' the piping till it works.

Get a 3.5" muffler and have the muffler shop expand and weld, should be easy for any good muffler shop.

You still did not clarify if it was 3.25 ID or OD... sounds like it's ID which in that case it is likely thick gauge 3.5"....

Ok I took some pics and remeasured. OD=3 5/16" ID=3 3/16"

So should I just get a 3" muffler and make it work or a 3.5" and reduce it down to what I have? Also does tha look like the right system?

Looks like it's a 3" exhaust until the axleback, then it flares to 3-1/4". It looks right in terms of hangers and such for a 2g AWD. I bought a Magnaflow 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlet SS muffler for about $100 shipped (model 12198 from Summit Racing, good rep, within $4 of cheapest price). I don't think you'll find a good straight-through muffler that isn't rediculously loud for much less. You can get the can-style mufflers for about $50-$60+S&H (probably another $25 for shipping). But I got the Magnaflow because of the ANNOYING drone of the can-style. But then you need tips. You could just polish the Magnaflow tips, maybe cut them to a slant cut, or get tips welded on for another $100 (maybe a bit less, but that's how much mine cost). Bolt-on tips are cheaper.

Also, since yours is a cat-back, you might want to make sure that you don't need an adapter from the stock cat to the b-pipe inlet flange.

I have a thread going related to my turboback install. Your exhaust is probably a bit different, but you'll still have some of the same issues I did. The link below is a tech-article-like post I added. But the thread it's currently embedded in also has more info about the muffler and tips. The 2nd page of the thread has some tips I was looking at, and the 3rd page has pics of the muffler and tips I ended up buying. I'm not done swapping the can muffler out with the new one and tips, so that's still a work in progress.
