Ok, I've always had this problem ever since I had the car. I believe the shocks are blown. (obviously...ROFL) But, ever since this week, the car got louder and louder over bumpy roads and would squeak and creak when I turn the steering wheel. It is pretty embarrassing if you ask me..:coy:

But anyway, I tried fixing the squeaking creaking because I thought it was the lower ball joint and various other joints by spraying liquid white lithium into the torn rubber boot. (temporary)

It made it a bit better but, was still there and still annoying.

I was searching and I came about the lower ball joints being so dry that it caused the symptoms I have with my car. I have torn boots and the lubricant could be long from gone. You guys think its a combination of the shocks and the lower ball joints?

Up and down for the shocks and side to side for the lower ball joints?

And I don't mean that in a snotty way. Loose isn't good. Any amount of loose can be dangerous...Very. The two larger bolts that attach it to the inside of the wheelwell are easy to get to to check for tightness since they are right on the top of the fender next to your strut in the engine bay. I haven't seen those come loose very often. And from your description that doesn't sound like your problem. Don't drive it... Seek out your local Satan or any other reputable parts dealer to get a new one. As far as I know the ball joint isn't replaceable and you will have to replace the entire upper wishbone. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong... I buy all my suspension parts new from Satan. I don't try to haggle or buy suspension components from a junk yard or ebay. That's just me. Point is, it's dangerous as it is. Who knows when it's going to let go, break. Today or tomorrow or three weeks from now. Best to play it safe.

Those also go on fleabay for cheap, might as well grab a set and do both sides.

Dont drive around any more until you fix it.

Ive never seen those go bad before..how many miles do you have on the clock?

195,xxx. But, I am not talking about the ball joint guys. I am talking about the Upper control arm thats bolted on the shock tower. The bushing seems loose. Anyway, I got another bushing assembly for it. I will let you guys know.

That upper control arm still has a "balljoint." That seems to be what you are saying has failed; has slop; play. "Balljoint" is the type of joint. There are more than two balljoints type acticulating joints on each side of the front suspension on a 2G. The joint you are talking about is called the upper arm ball joint and knuckle connection. Still a ball joint. Not the "Balljoints" that commmonly fail on our cars that are the Lateral and Compression ball joints. Fix repair replace the part that is failed and get back to us.

I fixed it guys. Thanks for the help. But, anyway I only replaced the part which is bolted onto the shock tower and that is connected to the upper control arm. You can see the bolt when you open the hood and look for the 18mm or so next to the strut.

No more excessive play and took it for a drive around my neighborhood. Seemed fine but was still skeptical, took to on the freeway, feels better over bumps= pass.

just a first place to look. Eliminate the possibilities as they come. Recall should be free at a Mitsbishi dealer. Just a first and free place to look. If that doesn't fix it further diagnosis

I was wondering about it being "free" but I said to myself and to a friend that a recall is a recall, they can't turn down a recall..its considered illegal or against the law?

I'll let you know after I get my recall recalled.

Maintenance and recalls first. Eliminate the possibilities... Recalls are good for the free and work that you don't have to do. have them check your car for the transfer case recall at the same time. Might get a new transfer case out of it as well as new front ball joints. The front ball joints are a pressed in part of the control arms and they replace the whole control arm.

Cool, I am going to plan ahead to call Mitsubishi tomorrow when they're open. As for the transfer case, I wish I can get the recall but my car is FWD.

Nice looking car. I like the look of the EVO8 wheels on a 2G. I almost bought a set myself. Shows off your brake setup well.
Yeah, I love the EVO 8 rims. Actual EVO 8 owners always look with awe when I drive by. My brake set is nothing to go wacko over. haha. :thumb:

Please let us know how this works out for you as well - my vehicle is having the exact same problems and it looks like there was a recall in relation to it.

Is there still a chance of having the recall honored, or is the stealership going to laugh in my face since it was issued in 2000? I haven't done any modifications to my suspension, brakes, or anything outside of normal maintenance. Thanks!

a recall is a recall , doesn't matter when it was issued just as long it hasn't been already taken care of. just call the dealer and they will tell you if it has or hasn't as far as mods it wont matter its covered under an act by congress pass saying modifications can't effect warranty plus this is a recall cause the part fails :thumb:

I called today and they told me that for my car it's been replaced. I have a problem with the ball joints now I told them. They told me, it doesn't matter, the "warranty" on the recalled part has been overdue. Bullshit I said.

was that a pic of your car with its chin on the ground? cause damn that sucks , I would call back and ask to talk to the service mgr and see what you can do that route he will try to work with you if he is customer oriented thats what I did when I was a parts mgr

If that's the case don't fix it. Wait for them to break and hopefully flip your car and injure yourself. Then sue the hell out of them! Wait...Just kidding. Don't do that. Dealers make me mad sometimes. If push comes to shove you might have to buy them and do them yourself which is not as good of an option as free but at least it is fairly simple to do and does not require any fancy dancy tools.

Ha, I am not gonna crash my car intentionally. :notgood: But, anyway I understand its an easy task but whatever. I guess I am going to have to pay for it out of my own pocket.

Hey, we didn't even say if the squeaking/creaking was because of the ball joint..is it?

grinding noise. Check everything to make sure nothing else is loose. Check the steering rack to make sure nothing is bent broken visibly obviously broken. Get under the car when it is supported on jacksatnds securely and pull push on parts to look for more possible moving parts that shouldn't be moving. Only do this on a lift or if the car is securely on jackstands! Check the CV joints. Look for rips or tears in the CV boot.

It's not a grinding noise, car runs fine @ 90 MPH, pretty smooth if you ask me. Its a creaking/squeaking noise whenever you turn and bounce the car. My suspension is so soft that you can create the noise by moving the car up and down on the fender where its located.

Check every nut and bolt of the suspension to see if any are damaged or loose and then if your suspension is very soft and only makes a creaking noise when turning or going over bumpy roads you may have an improperly mounted front strut and spring or a blown strut. Is the undercarriage clean? Sounds goofy but you might has some dirt/grit on either the upper or lower spring perch that is squeaking an making annoying sounds but I'd look at your struts.
