95 7bolt in a 97tsi

ok so i tried searching and couldnt find an answer, but anyway..i found a good deal on a 7bolt out of a 95 gst and i was wondering if it would fit my 97tsi because i thought i heard somewhere that they were different, but i wanted to check first..thanks guys

If I where you I would just do a 6bolt.

yeah i know, i thought about doin the 6bolt swap, but funds limit that right now and i hope to be trading up to an awd soon, so maybe then thanks for the help

The motor itself is the same, if you are going to use the ECU out of the 95 and it is a socketed one, you will need to change your plug wires around

The cylinder heads are different too, the Cam position sensor is under the intake sprocket on 95-96 motor and the 97-99 are on the opposite the timing side of the engine. You might just want to reuse or rebuilt your cylinder head from your 97.

And along these lines, the '97 CAS wires will need to be extended to reach the front (t-belt end) of the motor. The 2ga CAS is a PITA to change compared to the 2gb (under a minute if you're pitstop-fast about it).
