Power steering pump compatibility

Can you directly bolt on a power steering pump from a second gen to a first gen? I know the product numbers are different, but I was just curious.

i was also wondering the compatibility of the pumps, and what is the exact reason you have to change to the 2g pump on a 6 bolt swap? from what ive read its the differences in the belt but if you are using the 6 bolt pullies it shouldnt matter.

please enlighten me.
