Hi guys, I'm looking to upgrade my stock 1g MAF because I believe it is giving me problems and was wondering if a MAFT & the GM MAF would be a better than converting it over to a 2g MAF?

I would say yes, but the MAFT setup can be a hit or miss if you try to tune with it. If all you're using the translator for is to translate (aka have it zeroed out), then it'll get rid of the MAS before the turbo to free up the flow as well as allow more air to flow if/when you get to that point. Plus, you can use it to tune and accommodate larger injectors if you choose to - or pair it with an S-AFC or DSMlink for a decent setup.

so when I get the other setup I would install it in the IC pipe that comes off the intake manifold? and just do away with the one that is installed on the car now. Then if I wanted to vent the BOV I could .

Thanks I really appreciate the info

Yep, you would install the GM MAF in your upper intercooler piping, specifically between the bov and the throttle body. And then you could properly vent the bov if you wanted to. You would then get rid of the MAS that's attached to your intake pipe. So you'd have to get a new one. Just make sure it has nipples for all of your other lines/tubes that run to it.

so I would have to run 2 MAF's or just the one that goes on the IC pipe

Just the one that goes in the uicp. Here's how mine looks. Notice the GM MAF in the uicp and no MAS between the filter and the turbo - just a pipe.

May I ask how much extra tuning was required once the gm mafs was in? Reason being, I am looking into a similar setup on my stock 1g but need to know if I have to upgrade to larger injectors, chip my ecu, etc. I do not want to go dsmlink or anything exotic, this vehicle is not a "long-term" project.
cheers

No you do not need bigger injectors or anything like that. You can set the maft up to run the stock injectors, but I would recommend getting a wideband.
