We have a fresh rebuilt built 420a we just started it right now and noticed everything sounds good! BUT the rpms keep climbing for some reason?? It went all the way up to 3500rpms and we thought it would be best if we shut the motor off! Please help guys were in the process of trying to figure out whats wrong right now!!

What could cause this?? I checked the throttle body and its fully closeing.

just like black95awd said its too tight. adjust the screw and it will loosen it. its on the back side of the throttle body at the bottom below the cable

Also check all your vacuums. All your gaskets, like the throttle body one, or the intake manifold gasket. Any of the above can cause that once they go bad. Let us know if you find out what it is.

Ok so this will sound off the wall. since your a N/T.
Do a boost leak test at the TB. you WILL find those vacume leaks.
Most will say just spray carb cleaner on stuff and listen for engine rev. But you already are revving...

Boost leak test it....:thumb:

I completely disconnected the trottle cable from the throttle body and its still climbing slowly i checked all the vacum lines and there seems to be no leaks anywere??

check your gasekts. Make sure the intake manifold is tight and the gasket is good. Also TPS, anything like that (sensors)

Problem solved guys thanks for the help! It was the little sensor on the throttle body not the tps but the other one not sure what its called. put anouther one on from anouther throttle body and problem solved.

Im just hoping it didnt mess anything up by haveing it at that high of rpms on the first start up.

After problem was solved we let the motor run for 15 to 20 mins then changed the oil!

Glad to hear that man. I take it your happy now huh?:)

Keep us updated on how the car runs once it hits a few more miles.:thumb:

Yea its the same as the idle air control motor. What it does is allows air to bypass the throttle plate in a fuel injected engine to regulate engine idle speed.

Im very happy the car has been down for about 3 months now. Everything is brand new on the motor all the gaskets ex... Just glad to hear it run!!

I bet, I know what it feels like. I had a SRT-4 with a Cold Air Intake, and it sucked in water and hydrolocked my motor. I had the car down for about 2 months. Boy was I happy to hear it crank up again hehe.

Yeah we are on the same page, just never heard it by the name you called it, so I was like "Hmmmm, I wonder if he is talking about the Idle Control Motor" hehe. Thanks man.:)

Update: Car has a little over 20 miles and is going good! Been doing ALOT of vac pulling. Im having only 1 problem and that is my timing belt keeps sliding toward the valve cover! The belt is sitting on the edge of the cam gears. My only opinion would be the idle pully is bad!! What do you guys think?
