I was thinking about getting either a wideband O2, or EGT gauge and probe to use with my logger. Obviously the WBO2 is going to cost more yet yield the best results for AFR’s, but how good of a tune would the EGT net? Other than an EGT providing a warning of lean conditions is there any other use for it? Is there a rule of thumb that states 880°F on the EGT equates to 11:1 AFR? I’m just wondering which way to go because it seems like the O2 voltages on the logger can do the same thing as an EGT.

LMK.

Tuning by EGT works - sort-of - EGR measurements can vary from setup-to-setup, and only give you an idea of AFR's.

Since wideband prices have been falling the past few years, there really is almost no reason not to get one.

Get a wideband. You can get the AEM one for $254 from one of the site sponsors. The egt reading will be differently between cylinders and depending on where you mount it. You can gt a pretty good tune with an egt sensor but it won't be as good or easy as with a wideband.

WB first....but both would be better, you could have good a/f's but low timing can make
egt's go up and you can still melt stuff with 11.0-11.5 a/f's.
