i have a '95 eclipse rs that i just bought and the speedo just stopped working. i live up in canada where it gets cold. so i am thinking the grease in the speedo line thickened up and now the speedo cable stopped turning. i pulled out my cluster to see if i could put some lubricant in my speedo cable and found no speedo cable!!! where is it? or is it all electronic? what should i do to get it working again? i need it working to pass safety!

It`s electronic on most (or all) 2g`s. The speed sensor in on the tranny, convieniently nestled inside the rear trans mount bracket. Any check engine light on ?? If so, & the code is vss(vehicle speed sensor), most likely the sensor crapped out.

If your cluster still works with the tachometer, than your have a speed sensor problem. Before you replace the sensor, try cleaning out the sensor plug and harness with electrical contact cleaner and apply some dielectric grease. The plug for this sensor is known for getting debris and water into it causing problems.
