Would I be able to use the front mount intercooler that comes with the jdm GVR-4 front clip? does it flow better than my eclipses side mount?:dsm:

You can use the intercooler but it will take some fabrication to make new mounts and pipes. You may also have to cut away some of your steel crash bumper to let the intercooler fit. Just about any front mount flows better than the stock and will cool better during hot laps and daily driving. Make sure you clean it before you install it.

Thanks that really helps alot, I plan on upgrading to a better intercooler but i jus want something to handle the power until i get it.:dsm:

you can use a stock gvr4 fmic but it really isnt a very effective upgrade as the gvr4 intercooler is small and doesnt flow very much more than a stock sidemount. go with sumthin a little bigger at least if you have the money

The oem Galant VR4 intercooler is worthless, your stock smic will be more effective. The JDM Galant "RS" came with a decent fmic, performance wise it will be somewhere between a starion and an early evo. There are much better fmics out there and the newer evo fmics will be just as much work to install and will provide similar if not better performance.

So your sayin I should try out for the new evo intercooler or the starion intercooler? It would be niice to have an evo intercooler since im doing an evo set-up in my car but i know as my HP gets higher imma need somethin stronger to help cool down my turbo but for now I just have a 300hp motor and until i can get my evo III 16g turbo I just need somethin effective until then.

you might as well go all out now and get a good fmic it cant hurt anything, and it will probably save you money if you buy a good one now and dont have to buy two by the time your done.

Evo 8 intercoolers are cheap and plentiful, if you can make a set of pipes that would be the way to go.

Yeah maybe I should go all out now but intercoolers can be expensive. I wanted the buschur racing front mount but thats liek around $1,300.00 but I found some good priced intercoolers on extremeturbosystems.com that seem promising. Would anybody recommend them? I just need a good street/strip intercooler because I still plan on daily driving my car.:dsm:

Just run the ssauto intercooler. its cheap and alot of people run them.(including me) Intercooler technology has not changed in 20 years. The name brand ones you are paying for the name. IMO. just my .02

the 2g ssauto fmics aren't that bad but the kits for the 1g suck. The piping routes back over in front of the front mount. Just stick with teh ETS kit, Ive heard good things about them.

Gsx4 for the meantime do what i did when i had my 1g talon ( gosh i miss it :( ) Take out the intercooler, pour some gas in it, slosh it around and dump it. Repeat this step till the gas comes out clean, this should clean up the oily buildup in your ic. Mine came out black black when i did this :barf: I'm surprised air got through that LOL.

Yea I think I mite stick wit the ETS intercooler, I dont think i've looked into the ssauto ones yet. But for now i think i'll do what dsmtnr89 and just clean my intercooler out and hope it'll last until i can get my ETS one. :dsm:

Starion and Conquest intercoolers are great upgrades also from out stock sidemount. You will just have to fabricate some custom pipes, which is not that hard.

Actually as of now, I just did some searching and found a Evo 8 intercooler made by CXracing on ebay that sells for $109.00+ s&H and it is said to handle about 500HP which i was planning to make if im able to. I wanted to have my car set-up like an evo since i love dem cars along wit dsm's and i already planned to have a MHI Evo III 16g turbo (ported), Evo III o2 housing (ported), evo III manifold (ported), and even exterior mods like an Evo 8 carbon fiber spoiler and evo carbon fiber hood. I want to maintain as much of the evo parts on my car as possible so maybe if i can do some fabricating to the intercooler itself and have the pipes fabricated, mayb it'll work. What do you guys think? Sorry if I seem off topic but I was just explaining my reasons.:dsm:

go for the ebay core to save money just make sure you get a good pipe kit and you should be able to put up the numbers your looking for

Trust me dude, you dont want to run a stock vr4 fmic, I cant wait to get rid of mine...LOL, like stated before unless it's the jdm RS it's not worth it...just giving you .02...

There is actually a significant difference in core design, piping design, fitment, etc. between our kit and others. The core we use is our own, and we spec the fin pack internally and externally to maximize efficiency while retaining great flow characteristics. Installation, well, we honestly feel that our kit is second to none for fit and finish. I'd welcome the chance to discuss intercooler options with you to help select the best kit for your needs and budget! :dsm:

I was looking at the street/strip intercooler kit since it handles 500HP which is just about what im looking for hoping I can manage to make about 450-500HP using an evo III 16g turbo.:dsm: But I would like your opinion on what I should do too.

Our Street Intercooler Kit is a great option for an EVO III 16G and has gone 11.1 at the track on larger setups. You won't be anywhere close to 450-500whp on an EVO III 16G but if you were thinking you'd like those kind of power figures on a larger turbo at some point in the future, our Race Intercooler Kit would be a great choice and would perform extremely well in the meantime. If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM, E-mail or call me direct. Thanks! :dsm:

I remember on a forum here about the evo III 16g turbo that a guy ran 10's on an evo II set-up. I think he made around 420+HP so im hopin to do the same thing. But i'm hoping over the next couple of wweek I can get a street/strip intercooler kit for my car. So hopefully i'll be in touch with you guys soon:):dsm:

The ETS kit is really nice. We have used their kits on a bunch of different cars and fitment has always been first rate. Customer services rates way up the also.

yeah he might have made 420+... but thats completely maxed out. the evo III does not flow enough cfm in order to make more power than that. including the fact that after 25 psi that turbo is basically a hair dryer.... in order to make that type of power you also have to be ON TOP of your game with tuning and the car has to have very very well complementing mods.

#1 high compression pistons are needed (9.0:1 and up, you get them from magnus)
#2 you will be dumping A lot of fuel were talking like 850cc and up injectors. with all the other fixin's of a good fuel setup with a walbro and a apfr.
#3 cams: go with fp2's and or 1's or 1X's or the hks's that match mirror those profiles. anything else will be to big of a profile.
#4 you will need to run race gas (110 oct and up) or run meth injection. that power was obtained by a guy i knew with a 93 oct and meth injection tune on dsmlink.

and for the record i highly second/ reccomend the ets kit. i have one on my galant and i love it.
