I'm looking to buy a Turbo back exhaust for a 97' GSX Auto. The car is a daily driver and will eventually see high hp numbers as it can while being streetable. The car will be built in stages of horspower and it wont see a big build all at once. So, I want to make sure I get the best turbo back pre made exhaust i can buy. I looked at a company called VRS and it looked like a very nice exhaust but I wanted to see if there were better options before buying it.

Next thing I need to know is if I should go 2.5 inch or 3 inch? How much power can be made on 2.5 inch? 500whp is a possible end goal and I dont want to ever switch the exhaust out after buying this one.

Next thing the exhaust needs to do is be as quiet as possible while helping get to the power goal. Not trying to wake the neighbors.

Thanks, sorry for being a noob. ROFL

I have the VRS 3" turboback with no cat. It sounds really good and is not too loud unless you are stomping on it. Make sure you get stainless steel.

juicy jems 3" turbo back exhaust on ebay, 350 dollars shipped. Quality product and for a cheap price you cannot beat it.

EDIT: I just did a quick look, I went through 10 pages and gave up, but keep your eye out for it.

Ok, so 3 inch is 100% needed. good. Now, where I live at I need to be running a cat so I assume the 3 inch VRS has the option of having a high flow cat right? I will check the juicey jems exhaust but i never heard of it and want to make sure I'm buying stainless steel mandrel bent stuff. No cheap crap on this car.

ok well if VRS has only good things about it then it sounds good. On the website they say with O2 eliminator. What does that mean? Does that mean without a cat? So if i buy the 3 inch stainless steel awd turboback exhaust they have listed for $800.00, that will include a cat right?

Also, sinc this is made to bolt up to the stock turbo, what happens when i change the turbo out, will it still bolt up or have to be modified to fit a different turbo?

I just installed this exhaust for a friend on his '98 GSX last week. This is the "juicygems" turboback that dsmzoom was mentioning.

eBay Motors: DSM 95-99 Talon Eclipse AWD 3" G-Power Exhaust Downpipe (item 310026163101 end time Mar-04-08 18:27:35 PST)

$299 shipped for a full 3" stainless TURBOBACK on eBay. It fit like a glove. Not one single issue at all! Very mellow exhaust note and come with a silencer if you really need it.

that is alot less expensive but it looks very nice. Is it too good to be true? Why does VRS cost so much more? what does VRS have that G-power doesnt have?

If both exhausts were the same price would you still choose G-Power?

I have personally never seen the VRS in person, but have heard good things. I have seen the G-Power in person and installed it myself onto my friend's car and it was a very very nice piece. Fit perfectly. Pointed straight out of the back of the car. What you see in the pictures on the eBay page are 100% EXACTLY what you get in the box. Downpipe, testpipe, catback, silencer, gaskets, hardware, and even an adapter for people with stock cats (you won't use it).

No, the G-Power only comes with a 3" testpipe, which is simply a piece of 3" pipe with 2 flanges on each end. A test pipe will replace the cat and will make more power, but you could fail emissions if you have emissions testing. I'm sure you could have a high-flow cat fitted in there for emissions purposes.

I guess with the money saved from vrs fitting a cat for emissions here wouldnt be a problem. What's a good cat to run? magnaflow ? Catco?

Magnaflows work great. The best reason why Magnaflows are good in your case is because they don't usually come with flanges on the ends. That means you could easily adapt it into the G-Power exhaust with ease!

On that G-Power exhaust, are they playing word games with the stainless steel part? Is it all stainless steel or just a part of the system is stainless steel?

well, no one has anything bad to say about the g-power exhaust?

To put it simply: In my opinion, for the price, there is NO other exhaust for the 95-99 AWD DSMs that is better than the G-Power.

How about the O2/DP matchup? Flanges bolt together? Stock O2 need ported? If so, is there enough material to port the O2 to match the DP inlet? Or maybe the DP is 2.5" at the O2? I was looking at a DP and catback as two separate items for about the same price, but the DP had a reducer to the stock cat that you'd have to cut off, and I couldn't get as much info about it as this system :p. I'll still have to hack off the ricer muffler and have a twin-tip Magnaflow put on, but that's fine ($54 shipped+fabrication cost and chrome tips).

what is a race cat?

Also, whats everyone think about hahn racecraft exhaust?

The G-Power is 2.5" to the flex-section, then it's 3" the rest of the way. It fits just fine onto a stock o2 housing or an aftermarket o2 in stock placement. A ported o2 is always recommended, but isn't necessary for this exhaust.

A race-cat is just another name for a testpipe. It's just a straight piece of 3" pipe. The "race-pipe" section is the section that would be replaced for the Magnaflow high-flow cat you want.

Go look for your local muffler shop and ask if they can do 3 inch cat-back; my friend bought his muffler for 100 and got 3 inch piping for 100 installed. Since your car is AWD the bends wouldn't be as bad as a FWD exhaust crush bent.

Thanks for the info. I guess I could search to see what the stock O2 outlet ID is. I can port it out to match if it's smaller, but if they're both 2.5", then I don't have to pull the O2 off.

Well, I put off getting an exhaust long enough. Just bought it. Wife and kids are out of town for the first week of April, so hopefully I'll get the Magnaflow twin-tip muffler and chrome tips ordered+shipped before they leave, install the eBay unit, and get it to an exhaust shop to replace ricey muffler with sleeper :sneaky: before they get back. :p

Time to search for a tip vendor...or go to bed.:boring:
