this might seem like a dumb question but how do you get that spooling noise from your exhaust.. like SRT-4's and some evo's ive seen at the track. do i just need a bigger turbo or a better flowing exhause? or maybe cams? dont ask why, ive just always liked the way it sould when u can hear the turbo at idle from the exhaust

^^Agree, when I had my down pipe open you could hear the turbo spool. The only thing I didnt like was that it sounded like a tracktor.

yeah ive tried that with mine and it sounds good at an idle with open downpipe but while driving the car its really loud and annoying.. but i hear alot of cars that have full exhaust systems that arnt very loud at all, and you can hear the turbo really well though the exhaust.. my best example is my friends srt4.. if u cut the cat out of the stock exhaust u can hear it really good

I can hear something in the back of my car whir when i gun it, though I always thought that it was the drive train spinning. It sounds a lot like the turbo, only in the back of the car. So is it really the drive train doing its thing, or is it the exhaust making that sound?

Most of it will come from no muffler. You can hear some if you have a straight through style muffler but a Cat will kill most of the spool sound

Bigger the turbo the more you can hear the spool.

Also a free flow intake will help get you some sound from the motor side and also performance.

My honda B16 turbonetics stage 5 is the loudest out of my 3 turbo cars.

It is a 3" pipe all the way back no muffler you can hear the car start to spool the whole time when you go down the highway. I tried the same thing on my DSM and it sounded like shit and was way to loud.

So on the DSM i have 3" all the way back to a magnaflow muffler and you still hear some of the spool from out side the car but not much from inside the car you get most of the turbo sound from the intake hard pipe

The gurgling/spooling sound you hear on some cars is from having an exhaust system with very little or no back pressure. If you remove the cats and the resonators, you can usually hear it pretty good, assuming the muffler does not obstruct the sound.

ok thats more of what im looking for.. but i still want the car to sound good.. i dont mind loudnes as much as long as it a good sound ya know.. but i have all hard piping and a full 3" turbo back with no cat and i cant hear the wuring noise at all.. i can hear it really loud while boosting but i want to hear it at idle

anti-surge compressor housing? They have a nice sound as well, the BW turbo's also sound nice.

As far as from the exhaust, run a open downpipe if you want that sound, your choice.

On my honda, i had a cat, muffler, and resonator, but i had a open dumptube, the intercooler was black, you would never think it ran 11.40's, but let me tell you, when i got on it if you didn't know it was turbo you better get checked out because it sounded violent, especially when i hit full boost and the wastegate opened.

Goodluck with your 'turbo noises'.

while driving even with a full exhaust you don't really hear it from inside the car.. I let my buddy take my car for a spin and when he was driving away I was amazed by the sounds that the turbo was making that I could not hear from inside the car. and it was a FWD stright 2.5" exhaust so there were a few extra bends, so the car was quieter than a AWD.

I have never thought of why some of those cars you can hear it in the exhaust. B/c my Turbo M3 has a pretty big turbo and straight through exhaust and I can't hear the turbo at all through the exhaust. I have always heard more spooling from the intake.

A lot depends on the muffler you have.

a open down pipe or no muffler or cat and i am sure you will hear it.

Even a t3/t4 is much louder then any of the 16g's even my EVO 9 16g.

This weekend i am doing a new down pipe and getting rid of the cat on my EVO so i will let you guys know how that sounds

I have a cat back JUNB.L on the car now full v-band it is the best system i have seen so far besides it does have some weight to it.
