Hi all, my car is a 90 eclipse gsx and the problem that I am having with my car is that when I floor the car starting in 1st gear right when it hit around 5500prm-6000rpm the needle will just spike and jump all the way into redline about 8000 or so, shift into 2nd and it will do the samething. I've worked on other types of car before and I just recently got this one but I'm thinking that either my tach is faulty or getting a back signal or maybe I have a faulty ignitor, from experience with other cars the tach signal comes from the ignitor or coil. Let me know what you guys think before I jump into replacing unnessesary parts.

Are you sure you are driving a dsm and not a honda? Check your engine, make sure it doesn't say VTACK. :D Anyway, yes, on a 90, your tach is controlled by a module on the coilpack. Try replacing the coilpack, or testing it first, make sure its working, if not, you car will also run better after you replace it. Your tires aren't slipping btw right? :p

Oops, rechecked it, the vtwack that wasn't engaging....LOL....Well it turns out that my problem was that my timing was really advanced like 15+degrees from factory timing. I retarded the timing back to spec and the problem went away. Since I fixed that problem it gave me another problem, when I went to test that car right when it hits 5k the rpm climbs slower from there to redline. Its really noticeable. I was thinking of replacing the igniter in hopes to fix the rpm problems before and with this problem I will replace it for sure to eleminate the igniter as the problem.

And no my tires arn't slipping. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

Sounds like knock or detonation. Maybe you retarded the timing to far or its pulling timing to keep the engine from blowing up. If you have a logger, check your knock count. That is a killer or performance and your car right there. If not that, i vote coilpack or spark plugs or wires. :thumb:
