Alright so I bought a GSX from this random guy and it was real shady and the car was modded a good deal but i didnt really know anything specific and the guy i bought it from didnt tell me anything cause he claimed it was his girlfriends and she was in Iraq.:rolleyes: So it drove alright but I wasnt really pushing it and i had never driven a manual or a turbo car so it may not have been running that great but I didnt notice anything. Anyways I got it home and decided to do the sea foam treatment and since then its been acting like shit. Heres a vid of the first drive after the seafoam and if you can tell it bucks or something (maybe fuel cut) when i get to about 4000RPM.

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YpoowrKGZ0c"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YpoowrKGZ0c" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

now the symptoms are:
-cant push down the accelerator more than about 20% on flat ground and even less on hills.
-If i push down too much then the turbo spools and all power is lost
-If I floor it the turbo slowly spools but no power.
-no matter what i cant go over 4000RPM after I hit 4000RPM it studders then stops accelerating
-it smells real bad when I push too far on the accelerator. Its like a really strong chemical smell.
-Theres a static sound in the left tweeter when the accelerator is all the way off or down too much
It doesnt buck anymore like in that vid.

Potential causes:
-The BOV (apexi) is not reciculated
-the SAFC II might be bad or tuned wrong
-It looks like the wastegate on the stock turbo is welded but no external WG (see pic below)
-Boost leak?
-There is this wierd extender for the exhaust mani (shown in pics below) where it goes Block>gasket>extender>gasket>exhaust mani. I went to the mitsu dealer and they say its not supposed to be there stock.
-There is an O2 elim custom turboback exhaust that may have something wrong with it (no O2 sensor or something)
-Bad wiring?
Im not sure if any of these things would cause these symptoms but it only started acting this way after the seafoam.

Compression is good. When its in neutral it revs fine. Idles fine but drops randomly but picks back up again after a few seconds. Im building a 6 bolt for this thing so im not putting any money into it i just want to know what the hell is wrong and if there is an easy fix. Im not going to buy new parts for this thing. Ill put in about 200 bucks to fix it but it should be a guarenteed fix.

Sooo, any thoughts???

Well I dont believe the sea foam would cause all of this, but I have a few suggestions. Sounds like there is a problem with the SAFC tuning, and as for the pictures, not sure what that is there for, maybe for support but dought it. I would consider this engine a loss and use it for parts, unless you drop money into a professional tuner or shop there is really no way to know if the modified parts where even put in right. good luck man, hate to see this kind of stuff happen

Its acting similar to when the mass-airflow sensor died on my GSX. However, my eclipse never smoked like that. The MAS might be *part* of the problem, and since they are cheap, it couldnt hurt to look into a new MAS.

Better check to see that its actually awd. ( Not saying you are dumb or anything, just saying it wouldn't be the first time I'd seen it happen) At least the body is in good condition.

If the down stream O2 sensor is gone all that will happen is you will get a CEL. Have you tried turning the SAFC back to a stock map? They hold multiple maps so maybe a stock map will help it out. Obviously don't try and boost hard or beat on it, but see if it just runs smoother.

My suggestion to you is to start reverting everything back to stock. Then when it is in stock form see if it runs better. You definitely should try and recirc the BOV, but reverting it to stock so you know how everything is installed and that things are how you want before you mod it is IMO the best way to find the problem. It doesn't look like it has a lot done to it and shouldn't take very long to do.

Check the shaft play on the turbo and see if there is any oil in the IC pipes.

You appear to have no wastegate, and therefore no ability to control boost at all. I would fix that problem before driving it again.

Get a BOV that recirculates.

Obviously do a boost leak test.

The manifold extender, as well as the turbo/manifold adapter/spacer plate that are installed SHOULD be okay, provided there are gaskets that seal well and you have not leaks. The manifold spacer may have been installed to prevent having to dent the water pipe for a larger compressor housing turbo.
