Using Ebay Gaskets

Thanks for the input so far... I think this kit will do, I dont plan on doing a build in this car, not yet anyway. ;) These guys look alright if they're claiming to be ISO and ASE certified. Anyone else's thoughts? :thumb: yay or :notgood: nay? :dsm:

Thats awesome, I'm glad they're holding up for you! I wonder if I could have the same luck. I looked at jnztuning.com, Ebay gaskets are still almost half the price.

Anyone else got experience with these? Thanks. :dsm:

I purchase the same kit from the same eBayer you are looking at. It fit and work great for my 2g GSX. It has been over a thousand miles on it now and still running strong. :thumb:

CNS sucks. I got a head gasket kit along with arp head studs torque to 85 foot/lbs and the head gasket blew no more then 80 miles so I called them and they told me that I was screwed because I did the work my self and didn't have the head machined when the head was fine to begin with. I checked it with a straight edge and a feeler gauge. Pay the money for the felpro kit

The kits probably fine...just don't use the headgasket! Buy a quality one...oem or MLS.
Also if some of the gaskets just are a bit too thin for you then you can use them for tracing new ones on some quality gasket material from your local autoparts store.

I was thinking that. Which gasket do you recomend? I mostly just want to rebuild the top end, maybe get some evo lifters to get rid of the horrible tick I now have. Tracing new gaskets is a good idea too if the ebay ones are too thin. Thank you. :dsm:

Factory mistubishi (either standard or MLS) or cometic MLS is my recommendation.

I'm actually tracing some of the ebay gaskets I have right now. On some parts I prefer to use better quality material...others it doesn't matter so much. Also you can just use some good quality silicone along with the ebay gaskets and you'd be good to go.:thumb:

I think I'm going to get this kit and not use the head gasket. Can't rebuild yet since its my daily driver still, anyone got a honduh I can beat on? :D It's always good to have a set of gaskets ready though. Thank you guys for the input! :dsm:

i have always heard that is it recomended to only use factory mittsu gaskets.

Agreed 10000000%.

As for the guys who are considering non-OEM gaskets, ask yourself this. Are you willing to redo your timing system when your front case gasket starts leaking? Are you willing to pull the transmissions should the rear main seal / gasket starts leaking? Are you willing to go through the hassle of removing your head and getting it to a machine shop because you blew your valve seals after 10 minutes of idling?

These are if's, but these IF's IMO aren't worth saving $150 because it can potentially save you hours and hours of frustration and possibly more $$$ in the long run. Not to bash aftermarket gaskets, since Felpro has long since been a safe replacement for OEM gaskets, but I still can't bring myself to try them.

i bought a topline complete engine rebuild kit from inline motors on ebay for 87.00 i just didnt use the head gasket, i have about 35,000 miles on my dd boosting 22 psi

Kinda like measure twice cut once, do it right the first time....haha. I'll look into JNZtuning.net again. These other dsm'ers have had good luck though! 35,000 boosting 22psi dd?? Couldn't be that bad of quality :D :dsm:

It's a hit or miss really. The point I always try to stress is, why take the chance when you don't have to. Many have done it with either good or bad experiences, I suppose it's a risk you have to take if you decide to go that route.

+1. I have used ebay gaskets for about 4 years now. I have never had any problems with any of them, nor have i ever heard anyone else in the 4 years i have been using them.

But hey, theres always a first time for everything. Hopefully it wont be you :sneaky:

try partsdinosaur.com . they guy is out of arizona or something like that. never had a problem with his stuff.

Depends on the car for me. If it's basically a POS and just transportation, no sense in spending a buttload of cash when it won't even be around in a few year's, you know?

I have had no problems with ebay gaskets kits EXCEPT using the head gasket that came with the kits. This is a very vital piece of the motor I would use nothing but oem either composite or multi-layer.

The part's they are talking about are BNIB, they just aren't OEM.

Although alot of times the same supplier makes both the OEM and the generic, not saying that's the case with these gasket's, but it could be.
