so I just bought my 1st dsm and its a 1g Talon now heres the issue

its VERY hard to get started the day I went to look at it the guy got it fired up with some ether. I drove it the 50 or so miles from his place to mine and it drove great except it wouldnt idle. Let it sit overnight and it wont start. Fire some ether into it and it fires right up

any ideas?

Check the plugs and make sure the wires for them are seated in the coil pack nicely. Same thing would happen to me because one of them was loose. Also check for vacuum leaks with WD-40 or something and that the plug wires are in the right order. Check that the injector plug things are in as well. good luck :dsm:

no cel and yes I have to keep into the pedal to keep it running

how do I check vacuum leaks with the wd40 like you said? what am I looking for?

yea my car is N/A for now Id like to eventually do a mild boost but 1st I have to get my car running reliably

If you suspect a vacuum leak:
I would check over the vacuum diagram under the hood and make sure all your hoses are hooked up properly and if you can't see a problem with the hoses check under the hood while it is running and listen for a leak and if you still cant find anything while the car is running spray some carb cleaner or wd-40 around the throttle body gaskets or the intake mani gasket and where the injectors go into the head and if you hear the motor either idle up or down thats where the leak is

ok sounds like a plan I'll check some things out tomorrow and see what I can come up with another friend told me to take the intake off and clean it up some esp the Throttle body

anyone have a pic of what the vac lines coming into the throttle body look like? Ive got this weird suspicion that the vac lines are hooked up backwards

Vacuum lines Front to back yellow/red /green. As for low idle check the BISS ajustment on the throttle body the round vertical protusion with a rubber cap in it. The biss has a rubber Oring that in time schrinkes with age and lets the screw shut off the air to the engine at idle. Try backing it out a few turns and see what happens.

its not a low idle issue it wont idle at all if I take my foot off the gas it
dies I
have to keep pumping the gas pedal to keep it running

Clean the throttle body. The plate could be getting stuck due to carbon buildup. Check to make sure the throttle cable is adjusted properly. Check the biss likewise. Change the spark plugs and check the wires.

OK you have a VERY low idle. Now back to what I was saying.

If the BISS is what Im thinking of mine doesnt have a rubber cap but its the screw just to the right of the throttle body thats sunk in quite a bit? where can I get this o ring to replace it? I pulled it today to look at it and it looked fine but I have no comparison as to what a good one looks like

also what would be proper throttle cable adjustment? relatively taut?

I agree probably the biss screw. If you take the rubber plug out and tighten the biss screw all the way tight then loosen it 2 1/4 turns back out it should help. You may have to work on it a little to get it perfect.

check the coolant temperature sensor....it senses what temp the coolant is and bases the amount of fuel to send through the injectors, a good sign to if the plugs are black or bad...I would recommend ngk iridium plugs, you need a good hot plug for a N/A dsm, if that doesn't work try some fuel system cleaner.

IT LIVES! I changed the spark plugs with some NGK BPR6ES and redid the vacuum lines I was concerned about (thx tqmx1) and she fired right up now I gotta get this idle issue down and I'm good to go for now and can start dailying this beast
