So last night my buddy backed into my car on his way out... the damage isn't real bad, but he is trying to figure out if he should pay for it out of pocket or if we should get insurance involved.

It looks like its just the fender, bumper, and inner skirt/fender.

I am going to have it quoted this Friday when I get back into my hometown, but can anyone give me a ball park estimate from these pics?

Thanks.

I would say just work it out between you two...

Why?

You have a 97 front bumper/headlights on a 95 car. If you go through insruance, they will more then likely put a 95 back on it. Which in your case, would be pretty pointless assuming you did the conversion.

Looks like a pretty easy fix as well. A shop will not fix that, they will want to replace the whole bumper.

replace fender and bumper, blending paint into the hood and door. probably lookin at around 1500.

Thats a good point - insurance would probably try to bring it back to stock. Also, I am assuming they will replace the bumper, fender, and inner splash skirt.

Any ideas on price though? I was thinking $800ish - but I'm really not sure. I'd just like a few ballpark estimates to tell my buddy.

Thanks

If you do everything yourself minus the paint work, I'd say $800 is a pretty good estimate. Might wanna bump it up to a grand though. Really depends on who you know.

Where do you guys get those estimates? Around here replacing the fender, bumper, inner fender, and headlight with paint would run around $2000. You should get estimates from a few shops before you tell your buddy anything.

I'm sure he doesn't want to tell his buddy, "hey, it's 1500..." that kind of talk will bring up financial issues and ruin a friendship. If you want to stay cheap hit up a junkyard and ask your bud for 600.

i would take it to get estimate's and go from there...tell him how much it would be to fix it. Then after that its his decision weather he wants to pay to have it done or pay the insurance deductible, that i doubt is going to be more then 500. Also, how would this ruin a friendship? the dumb ####er hit it so its his problem. I have had my friends hit my cars and they always fixed it, and never had a problem with it. My friends just always new that they did it so they would pay to have it fixed, just like i would and have.

When I had a ball joint failure ( at 2mph pulling from a gas pump ), It cost me...

$90 driver fender
$197 Painting of fender/ air dam to the right color
$65ish for air dam
$10 for clips
----------------
$362 and I installed everything.

I was actually able to get a quote today at a local shop... they said they would have to replace the front bumper, fender, and inner fender/skirt.

They quoted me at $1350 total.

I told my buddy that range and he was a little shocked, but knows he has to pay for the damage. I'm going to get another estimate this Friday at Maaco and compare the two.

What do you guys think Maaco would charge to fix the damage? Thanks.

Find somebody on hear willing to sell the bumper and fender, which is pretty cheap. To paint those two pieces, shouldn't be that outrageous. '

Bet that was embarrassing :coy:

Much less than if it had happened 15-30 seconds later, I would have been on the freeway.

Those things fail. I was 2 days away from getting my pay check so I could go buy the new ones and replace it.

Procrastinating and not doing it a month earlier was my fault. I learned a lot from that day.
