I was just wondering which interface you all are using with your 2g datalogger setups? I have a Palm IIIc with a cable from scantool.net and am planning to use obdgauge, and i was wondering which interface would be the most beneficial to me (as well as cost effective, because i'm poor). Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

I've done research and I finally decided on the pocketlogger software...The sample rates are slow enough to begin with, but atleast pocketlogger has higher rates then the rest. I have heard mixed reviews on the free interfaces like MMCD, Palm'n'stein and OBDgauge. Some say it gets the job done, others can't stand the slow sample rates and how confusing and difficult they are to use.

i simply can't afford pocketlogger (as much as i wish i had it) so i will just have to make do with what i got, i have everything i need except the interface (i believe goes between obd cable and serial cable). I can't figure out which one i need or which ones work best with our cars and stuff. Is there really any difference?

1. cheap
2. fast
3. reliable

choose two ;)
you have to weigh your options: spend a lot on a datalogger that's proven or gamble with your pistons against higher odds

i'm near stock setup right now so i dont think i'm going to hurt my engine too bad, i actually plan on getting link when i actually get some real upgrades on my car but as for right now i'm just trying to learn the basics of tuning with what i can afford. I don't want to hurt my car in any way but i thought for near stock settings that the free software would get the job done. I just noticed like 10 different interfaces mentioned and wondered which one would be ok to use. Sorry i sound like im putting down pocketlogger or whatever, i just work at a kroger part time and go to school full time and cant really afford pocketlogger at this time.

no, you just have to figure out what will work best for your situation. lots of us are broke, so, you're in good company. i think that you should know what is available and what sort of support group you'll have if you choose a or b. personally, i chose pocketlogger because it's established and a few guys around here that have been around the block use it.
good luck

is there any way to just buy "pieces" of data logger? I already have a palm, a cable, and hotsync cable. Can i just buy the software and interface from them or does it only come in the whole package?

You'll need the T16-003 from Multiplex Engineering, and a serial to DB9 hotsync cable to use your palm and free logging software on a 2g.

Interfaces

I ordered my interface from Paul Bowen himself, and it was in my mailbox 2 days later. :thumb:
