So I was driving down the high way doing 45 in fifth gear, dont ask me why I never do the speed limit, but any way i was just cruising along when all of a sudden i hear this extremely loud "boom" from under the hood and my car shuts off. I pull over and start checking things out cvs are fine no leaking of any kind from anything have fuel cars turning over have spark but it wont start. I just changed my timing belt 850 miles ago so i didnt think to check it. call the tow truck get it home yada yada yada my friend decides to take off my tbelt cover and its split right down the middle. My timing belt is now like 3/4" wide theres no pieces of it anywhere. Any ideas what caused this??

thanks in advace

mike

Have you taken the oil pan off lately? There are different length bolts if you mix them up and put one of the long bolts in the location between the crank gear and the oil pump gear it will wear/tear the t-belt in two. Going to have to tear it apart to find out the problem.

but if you timing belts not broken in half and still on contact with everything else then why wont it turn over? is the Question? also nows the times to replace it again before you even drive it again

yeah i know that thats gunna have to happen, all of my rockers fell off on the intake side????? i know thats why it wont run but i have no idea what caused it its the crazest thing i have ever seen none of my friends can figure out why they all fell off

If your asking the question why the rockers all fell off on the intake cam, its most likely because the timing skiped and the pistons hit the valves, poping/kicking the rockers off.

Any ideas what caused this??

that hole repair went fine i got it all put back together and finally took her out for a spin on my birthday so that was a great present to myself all intake valves were bent, put a big dent in my pocket now 850 miles later i think im in the same situation the belt was oem i got it off of ebay proably a bad idea now that i think about it

I'm just wondering if your Balance Shaft Bearings were dying the first time, & it took out your Timing Belt THIS time when you reinstalled Balance Shaft Belt on a dying BS - You are correct in that you DO need an answer as to WHY this happened.

im just hoping im not going to keep putting belts on and have them snap every couple hundred miles i cant afford that i just want to get rid of this thing it has been nothing but trouble for me i sware its on jackstands more than on the road i would like to get a 97 tsi awd and just solve all my problems for now....

Welcome to the World of DSM! You want something easy and reliable the get a HONDA, other then that welcome and Man up and fix her witha Gates Kevlar Timing belt off ebay for 100 shipped or replace it and sell and buy your dream DSM

Ouch, sorry to hear... But as far as you buying another DSM and a turbo one, I would say no to that.... There will be a lot more stuff that can go wrong. Fix this one, first. It's a DSM world!!! I had my car now for like 3 years, and just drove it, maybe for one year......
