So, i plan on buying a shell and putting a jdm motor. Id like to see where everyone purchased there. Im looking to find atleast a gvr4 jdm motor(red valve cover). Id like to here where people bought there yellow tops. Im looking to spend under 1400 for motor and tranny. Depending on if the car i buy having a tranny and the condition of it.

I would recommend pulling an engine at a yard, and rebuilding it. Sometimes you can get a freshly rebuilt for a good price vs. "JDM". Other wise chances are, if you do go the jdm route, the engine will be out of a galant. I know it's a little more but I prefer rebuilding over jdm just because jdm engines are pretty much engines that have been sitting in a yard for 17 years and its hit or miss. Karking.com is a site sponsor talk to them.

Those all look rusty as hell. I plan on going to a yard first before i buy a motor. Im probably not going to do it online. Ill try to look for some yellow tops.

jdm = used unknown engine riding in a salt bath across the world!
Why would you perfer a (jdm)engine anyways? If your into the rice then get a galant v/c off ebay and lie to everybody.

I cant stand all the jdm nonsence!:beatentodeath:

Last I knew there is no true JDM for eclipses(I am not including EVOs etc.). But whatever. I would strongly suggest to buy amother 6-bolt and put it in there. Or as stated get a junker and rebuild it from the block up. If it is rusted it doesnt matter as long as it is surface rust(has not penetrated the metal causing weakness in the metal). Surface rust is not a problem wire brush(hand and wire wheel on an air tool) will take care of it. At alot of places when you find a motor with surface rust you can get it even cheaper and it is just as good as any other motor, once it is cleaned up, if you are unsure if it is surface rust or not just hit it with aregular wire brush and some cleaner of some sort(alchol or acetone works great) if comes off and you do not not see divets of missing metal and it is not corroded going into the peice you cleaned of fthen chancesare it is just surface rust which poses no danger.

Sorry a little long.

Im not into the rice at all..Its just the cheapest way to get 300 awhp stock... $1400 for a 300hp engine...doesn't sound to bad to me. Id love to hear your story why you think its a bad idea?
