I am replacing my 2G manual trans and decidied it is a good time to replace the motor mounts. A few of them are really bad. Besides a little more vibration, difficult install, is there any other draw backs to using prothane over OEM???

No, i like them. It keeps the engine from rocking back and fourth under loads. I would only reccomend using the front insert and the two side ones. Leave the rear one alone. I had all 4 in my 1g and the vibrations that came through the dash were terrible. Once i removed it and replaced it with a stocker it was fine. I would just opt for the inserts, they would be much cheaper than all new OEM mounts as well.

The initial vibration is shocking at first but becomes normal. I took the advice from many on these boards and cranked my idle up to just under 1000 and it feels much better. The mounts make the power feel more solid and power delivery smoother. I think it made shifting more solid and helps prevent bucking when you accidentally bog the engine.

Over all it is a good bang for the buck upgrade. Prothanes are much cheaper then factory mounts. I had a bad mount and went to prothane.

My friends 1g with a BSE and a full compliment of Prothane motor mounts (3 full replacements and 1 insert) will vibrate your fillings loose.

My 2g with a BSE and full compliment of Prothanes doesn't vibrate half as bad.

If you have bad mounts now, and do the full prothane kit, you'll love it, trust me...

I have lower mount ES inserts and factory trans and engine (timing belt side) mount. The lower front mount is most important of them all. If you don't want a vibrating car, just get the lower ones. My car vibrates enough with the lower mount insterts and I can't stand things rattling in my car. If you know someone who has all prothane mounts, go for a ride in their car and that may help you decide on what route you want to take.

I have the Prothane motor mounts. Love it but it vibrates a ton. I have the balance shaft eliminated so that probably contributes a bit as well.

Thanks all to the feedback! Just one question, Digger you said that you uped your idel to just over a 1000 rpm, is that right? If so how did you go about doing that?

Thanks again to all. I will go with the inserts.

I have a prothane kit and BSE sitting in my room. I'm anxious to throw them in I like the feel of a car that vibrates. Kind of feels like an old muscle car.

Ive got them in ym 1G, and the car rattles n vibrates a ton, but liek everyone said, u do get used to it, and I too love them.

it will make you car feel like a tank!! the car will vibrate so much you won't be able to drive anyone around other than yourself because non-dsm people will think your car is about to fall apart LOL. I loved the response they gave but because of the terrible vibration I removed them the same day I installed them.

This was actually my first "Mod" to my car, Mine weren't bad though..i just decided to change them to prevent future problems with the stock mounts. I bought the whole kit which included the tranny mounts also. The car was vibrating like hell but it settled down now. Overall is a good buy. :thumb:

You have to adjust your bisc screw on the throttle body. Or possibly adjust the tension on your throttle cable. Or both to get it just right.:thumb:

With my 2.3L stroker, BSE and all four mounts being poly. My car shakes pretty good at idle (even at 1000rpm), but crusing at 3000rpm it is normal.

If it's a "nice" daily driver AWD, I wouldn't go with the prothanes. I did, and now I regret it and am replacing at least the trans and side engine mounts with new stock ones.

All that vibration is fine, and maybe necessary for a gutted track car... but personally I enjoy a nice running, appearing, riding, and sounding car. And with AWD, you're probably not having a lot of wheel hop issues, so it's not really worth the crappier feel just for the "look what else I did!" factor.

Just my .02.

I believe DSMlink allows idle adjustment as well. Along with some other god given features....speaking of which.....IM SICK OF WAITING FOR V3!!!!!! I WANT IT NOW!

Update: I installed the protheine mounts. All 4. The car does viberate a little. It feels like a drag race car now. Great buy and love it. Only thing is the car has a few rattles now LOL!

Also, i took the mounts to a local machine shop. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! Thanks for the suggestion. I even got them glass beaded too! They look brand new.
