Just wondering what turbos you guys are running in your DSMs. I'm getting an Evo3 16g this month and I'm wondering if that's really what I should get. I'm aiming for around 300fwhp maybe a little more. How can I achieve this? I'd love to hear your stories!

Ive got fp's 18g. It would probably make it a little easier to get 300whp, but the evo3 should do it fine.

Oh no I just do the mad face because it gets more attention from the members. Noone really cares if I put like a question mark or 2g symbol..that's the reasoning behind that. But yea, will I need a new 255 fp and 550cc injectors if I get this turbo and run at like..say 10-11 psi. It's supposed to be a daily driver.

255 and AFPR would be a good idea. If your looking for 300 whp, I would look into getting some bigger injectors 650,660's would be perfect for that turbo.

If you really aren't looking for more than 300 hp, which I'm sure you will be eventually but that's besides the point, you can save some cash by just getting a Walbro 190 and skip the AFPR and gauge. The 190 will easily handle that turbo/boost, especially rewired.

if you want 300fwhp then 10-11 psi won't get you there, you'll need some fuel and tuning mods for that, as well as higher boost. Also, IIRC, the stock wastegate spring on that turbo is 11psi, so technically I don't think it's even possible to run 10psi.

Depending on how much you want to spend you have a few options:

Cheap route:

used EVO 8 fuel pump and injectors, used SAFC and a cheap boost controller

Not so cheap route:

wally 190, 550 injectors, SAFC and boost controller.

You will not be able to hit 300hp on stock boost. Re-wiring the pump is a must(IMHO). If you want to go for more power and bigger injectors you will need something other than an SAFC to tune with. Porting your exhaust manifold will help a lot with spool.

you will also need another BOV (1G would work or the HKS in your wish list). You should look into upgrading the intercooler as well (perhaps a MKIV supra side mount). Most important of all is to perform all the necessary maintenance on the car before you start upgrading. Change timing belt, boost leak test etc.

Evo III 16g FTW!

u will need fuel, fuel, and more fuel

get a SAFC, 600cc injectors, AFPR, Walbro 190 or 255, and u will need to tune...

i would recommend getting before u upgrade the turbo (if u haven't already), BOV, boost gauge, and exhaust and o2 housing....since ## going bigger on the turbo a FMIC would be nice

So if my car were stock, what would I do to produce 300..assuming that we're going to use an evo3 16g. Your opinions matter!

2.5 - 3in exhaust
evo3 or tubular o2 housing
K&N air filter with a Ebay intake pipe
MBC
1g BOV
SSAC FMIC kit
AFPR
walbro 255
600cc injectors
SAFC

and the turbo along with some nice sticky tires to grip the power to the ground

if this was me, i would also add to that list a 1g TB and some 272 cams:sneaky:...but im overkill

this will get u to 300fwhp with a good tune :thumb:

sorry about 2 posts im just trying to be as helpful as possible

:talon:

Just my opinion, I would look into getting a little larger turbo, maybe a 50-57trim. This way you could make a little more power on pump easier. Plus a spool happy 16g will make your fwd spin like crazy.

I didn't want to get a bigger turbo than the evo3 cause I just wanted to be able to bolt it on to the existing manifold and 02 housing..sooner or later I'm going to get a new manifold and other upgrades but for now, a turbo will suffice. Working my way up after the turbo, getting the 255 walbro, 550..or 600 injectors? definitely looking to buy a boost gauge and mbc. man, dsm's are great. :dsm:

well if you plan on getting a bigger turbo later, I would go with 680cc injectors. I had those, a safc, and a 50 trim (no afpr) and was putting down 330 awhp. so here is the list that will give you 300, and give you room to grow without upgrading EVERYTHINg for your secod upgrade.

16g
680cc injectors
255 HP walbro fuel pump (rewired)
afpr w/gauge
mbc
upgraded bov
new intake/filter
maybe hard upper piping and supra or hahn side mount (front mounts work better but cost more $$$)
3" exhaust (2.5 usually has to be custom made and there are some "new" used systems cheap
a 2100/2600 clutch once the oem one goes out.
maybe a 1G tb

With everything there, you could easily bolt on a bigger turbo with the right manifold and have all the mods for at least a 50 trim.

oh and I like to have everything in my mod list not be the weak point, that is why I say the 680's and such... then everything has room to grow and is not the point of failure.

have fun man, and look into a service manual as it becomes your best friend.

Its the size of the garret wheel in the turbo. You can buy almost any turbo and still have it bolt on, just have to buy it with the right housing. You can get a 50trim bolt on for around $800 new and it will make a lot more power on pump gas than a 16g.
